Last night, all WoW accounts were suddenly reactivated to “active” – without any purchased game time. Is WoW now Free2Play? We reveal what this is all about and why you should hurry up with the offer.
Even before Blizzard made the announcement official, some players already noticed on Reddit that their accounts for World of Warcraft were functional again, even though no subscription was active. They suspected a glitch and assumed it would be fixed in a few hours – but that was not the case. The official announcement followed, stating that Blizzard had reactivated all accounts of former players. Every former WoW player can play for free this weekend.
Who is affected? All players who ever had an active account for World of Warcraft. They just need to update the game in the Battle.net app and can continue playing where they left off.
WoW gifts all old WoW players a Free2Play weekend until Draenor
Which version you can play: Depending on the version you owned back then, you can now access different content. All accounts have been upgraded at least to “Warlords of Draenor” – the penultimate expansion up to level 100. Anyone who already had Legion can access all content of the current addon during the free time.
This should be the perfect opportunity to take a short, free look into WoW and decide whether you want to be there at the start of Battle for Azeroth.
How long can you play World of Warcraft for free now?
The accounts will remain unlocked until Sunday, June 24. After that, they will be frozen again – unless you extend them with game time.
Are you taking the chance to take another look into World of Warcraft? Or can Blizzard not lure you with this method?
