The PvP in World of Warcraft is currently upside down. The culprit is the Brawls that provide amusing matches every other week.
PvP in World of Warcraft usually divides players into exactly two camps: Either you love it or you hate it. To motivate even PvP opponents to engage in the joyful art of “beating up other players” and to give veterans some variety, Blizzard introduced PvP Brawls with Patch 7.2. Every other week, there is a special event on a specific PvP map that players can sign up for.
The original rules of the map are largely thrown out the window and replaced with funny, entertaining mechanics. These are not always completely fair or “balanced”, but they are incredibly funny.
- Deepwind Dunk (May 16 – May 23): In the Deepwind Gorge, the sports fever has broken out. At regular intervals, balls appear in the middle of the map or at the mines. These must be picked up and then taken to the opposing base, where they must be shot into your own goal.
- Tarren Mill vs. Southshore (May 30 – June 6): This event is just a massive battle, reminiscent of the PvP skirmishes before real PvP existed. The goal is simple: destroy everything that is not the same color.
- “Full House” Warfare (June 13 – June 20): A concentrated arena match is not for you? For one week, the arenas will allow particularly many fighters into their halls. 15 per side, to be precise. This promises brutal, crisp matches in tight spaces.
- Temple of Kotmogu Resource Battle (June 27 – July 4): The Temple of Kotmogu gets a special twist. The orbs of power can be passed to allied players – the buff (and debuff) retains its strength. Additionally, the respawn timer is reduced to only 5 seconds.
- Frozen Arathi Basin (July 11 – July 18): Winter has descended upon the Arathi Basin and caused the lake to freeze over. Besides a lot of snow, there is also the “Fog of War” that ensures you can only see a few meters ahead. Communication is essential, otherwise you never know what is happening at other bases.
Brawls are not a new thing in Blizzard games. It all started with Hearthstone and its card chaos. It was so popular that the concepts were transferred in modified form to Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm.
