Do you want to make your house fly in World of Warcraft? It’s quite simple with a little trick. But who knows how long this will last…
Recently, housing in World of Warcraft was launched, and you can get creative with the design of your home. However, there is a little trick that can add more charm to your house from the outside. You can actually make your house lift off the ground and even make it fly. We’ll show you how it works.
Flying House in World of Warcraft
How does it work? The trick is relatively simple but may take some time, as you’ll need to do a bit of “fiddling”.
Visit your plot and open the Advanced Mode (Hotkey: 2). Now select the Move Tool (Hotkey: Shift+1). Then, click on your house. You will now see the arrow tips to move your house forward and backward (X-axis) or left and right (Y-axis) – but not up and down (Z-axis), as the arrow for up and down is missing.
However, this arrow is only visually missing, meaning it simply isn’t displayed. But if you manage to click exactly the spot where the arrow should be, you can use it! Experiment a bit and click on a spot directly above the point where the other two axes intersect. Move around the house and try from different angles – eventually it will work, and the “up” arrow will appear.
Some players report that the “up” arrow appears more reliably when they first place some larger objects (like rocks) next to the house, though this has not been true for us.
What is possible with this? Making the house lift off allows for many different ideas for houses that may not have been conceivable initially. Here are a few examples we have already encountered in the neighborhoods:
- Tree houses: Lift your house into the air and then place several trees so that the house is cleverly concealed by the foliage. With a few ivy vines and other greenery, you can spruce everything up. Wooden beams can serve as a ladder or staircase.
- Create an artificial hill on your plot using stones and rocks, and place the house on top of it. Simple but effective.
- Build your own floating island reminiscent of the surroundings of Nagrand. Construct a floating staircase with additional stones to reach the house.
- You can also hide your house in a floating block, so the entrance is completely concealed – like in the screenshot below.
Of course, your creativity knows almost no bounds – just like in the entire housing system of World of Warcraft.

Is this intentional? That’s a question many players are asking. After all, Blizzard likely “deactivated” the arrow for raising and lowering the house intentionally – but probably made it invisible by accident. It is quite possible that this behavior is not desired at all. This is also supported by the fact that the house has no texture from below, meaning you can “see through the house”.
However, even now you can see many houses and creative ideas in various neighborhoods that can be realized with this.
It is certainly possible that Blizzard will permanently deactivate this feature in the future, but as it stands, that seems rather unlikely. Most people assume that the developers will prefer to make the upwards arrow more accessible and perhaps also release a ground texture for the house.
