Patch 8.3 of WoW has been updated. It finally includes the first cutscenes and provides insights into the story.
With the Patch 8.3 Visions of N’Zoth, the next chapter in the story of World of Warcraft has been in the making for several months. Until now, many quests were still incomplete, important cutscenes were missing, making the context sometimes a bit hard to grasp. A first cutscene has now been implemented in the latest update, showing the black dragon Wrathion in action.
What can be seen? The short sequence shows Wrathion, the black prince and one of the last black dragons, as he is being corrupted by the dark inquisitor Xanesh. He fights back and manages to overpower the inquisitor. He does not want to end up like his father and instead wants to stand against N’Zoth. Xanesh flees, but promises that all black dragons will serve N’Zoth again.
Where does the sequence take place? The small cutscene is part of the quest line to unlock the legendary cloak. This is particularly important in Patch 8.3, as it reduces the corruption of players. This is not only important for certain items that have a specific value of corruption, but is also needed in boss encounters in the new raid Ny’alotha .
Wrathion collects the scales of his fallen siblings (Onyxia and Nefarian) to reinforce the cloak.
What’s going on with the black dragons? The black dragons have been a constant threat since WoW Classic. Alongside Nefarian, Onyxia, and Deathwing, they have reappeared in quests as the “mastermind” behind various plans. The swarm went insane, having been early corrupted by N’Zoth. All of Nefarian’s experiments conducted in Blackrock ultimately only benefited N’Zoth.
By the way, we will see more of Wrathion in Patch 8.3. He is also part of the new raid in Ny’alotha, the Awakened City.
