Anyone who wants to play World of Warcraft in full must subscribe and pay regularly. However, for casual players, returning players, and those interested, there is also the free Starter Edition. And with Patch 7.3.5, it gets even more powerful!
Try World of Warcraft for free with the Starter Edition
Playing World of Warcraft costs money. To maintain the subscription, players must pay with real money via direct debit or Game-Time Card. However, active players can also buy their playing time with WoW Tokens using in-game currency.
However, only players who want to enjoy the full extent of the game need the subscription. Some players find it not worth paying for a game they might not like. In order to whet the appetite of those players or to show former players what has changed, there is the free WoW Starter Edition. It is essentially a demo or trial version of WoW.
This version is completely free but has some limitations:
- Content of the expansions is locked
- Character level is capped at level 20
- Whisper messages can only be sent to friends
- Guilds cannot be joined (except as a returning player)
- Character services like transfers and faction changes are locked
- Joining groups is not possible
- Trading and the auction house are inaccessible
The Starter Edition gets more powerful with Patch 7.3.5!
Now the question may arise: Why even play?
Any progress you make with the Starter Edition can be carried directly into the game when you upgrade the test account to a full account. With the upcoming Patch 7.3.5, a nice change is also coming!
If you play a level 20 character on a Starter Edition starting from the next version of WoW, you will continue to accumulate experience points. These will be saved and credited to the character at the time of the upgrade!
So if you particularly enjoy your character but want to explore the world a bit before buying, you will receive all collected experience after level 20! Hard work will finally pay off.
Also for returning players who want to see the changes in the world with a test account, this is worthwhile. Time invested in a character after reaching the maximum level is no longer lost. This way you can experience more adventures with your old (and new) friends without being the latecomer!
