The next patch of World of Warcraft has been revealed and brings a fulfillment of their wishes particularly for Dracthyr. They should be able to choose their form.
Although World of Warcraft Midnight just launched a few weeks ago, Blizzard is already working hard on the next updates. Patch 12.0.5 is coming soon and is expected to bring some improvements and new features. Especially Dracthyr characters will receive a small highlight, as they will gain a ability that allows them to largely forgo their dragon form.
What kind of ability is this? The new ability will be called “Battle Visage” and is supposed to have the following effect:
As long as Battle Visage is active, summoners will automatically switch to their dragon form in combat as soon as they use an ability that requires this form. After the ability ends, they will automatically switch back to their visage form.
This effectively means: Summoners can spend the vast majority of the fight in their visage form and will only briefly switch back to their true form when they want, corresponding to certain abilities.
Camera movements are still a problem for dragons
Blizzard still needs to fix issues: Even though Blizzard has already announced this, “Battle Visage” is not yet available on the PTR. The developers are talking about some technical difficulties in implementing this.
One problem is the camera. When Dracthyr change their form, the camera shifts a bit – after all, the dragons are larger in their true form than in their visage form. However, they want to prevent the camera from jumping up and down during the fight, as this can be unpleasant.
We will only see how this gets resolved in a later version of the PTR for patch 12.0.5.
Cortyn believes: To be honest, I can understand that Dracthyr players want such a function. This may also strongly be due to the fact that Dracthyr is a race that has no access to transmogrification, as only a few armor pieces are displayed in dragon form. It’s not surprising that many would prefer to keep their visage form even in combat to at least benefit from a harmonious transmog.
The new ability seems to be a good compromise to allow these players exactly that. It’s nice that Blizzard is listening to the community here, even though they’ve been wishing for this for several years.
Let’s hope that Blizzard also gives in on other issues and remembers its strengths – because housing fans currently have to swallow some bitter pills.
