A new cutscene in World of Warcraft shows Prince Anduin in an important memory. We reveal what happens there.
In World of Warcraft, a new week has begun, and with it, the final chapter of the Covenant campaign from Patch 9.1 is now accessible to all who have reached Glory Level 58. It features a few interesting moments, including a sequence with Anduin.
Spoiler Alert: The article discusses Anduin and the current events from Patch 9.1. Those who want to avoid spoilers should not continue reading.
The campaign’s story revolves around the compass that Anduin left behind after the battle against Sylvanas in Oribos before stepping through the portal with the Jailer.
The compass is a memento of his father Varian Wrynn, who carried it during the assault on the Broken Shore (Legion). After Varian’s death, the compass was found by the player characters and returned to Anduin.
What is seen in the sequence? While analyzing the compass, Jaina and Bolvar find a memory of Anduin that is then played back. It is a conversation between Anduin and Sylvanas. They discuss the upcoming attack of the heroes who will ascend Torghast in the Sanctum of Domination, and how Anduin is slowly changing under the influence of the Jailer. He sympathizes with Sylvanas and understands how she must have felt under the influence of the Lich King.
We have translated the conversation for you from English:
Sylvanas: The battle is about to begin.
I will handle the invading forces at the top of Torghast.
When we reach Oribos, you will defend Zovaal while he completes the ritual.Anduin: You mean he will force me to defend him.
Every time he controls my will, I feel myself slipping away further. Is that what you felt when Arthas resurrected you, Sylvanas?
Hollow. Empty. Everything you once were… consumed by darkness.Sylvanas: Yes, young lion. But in the end, all the sacrifices we made will have been worth it.
Once the cycle of life and death is destroyed and remade, we will–Anduin: By then, I will be lost. And so will you.
I just hope my friends remember me as I was…
Not as what you have made me.
What does this mean for the story? The fact that Anduin deliberately left the compass behind clearly indicates that he is not yet fully subjected to the Jailer’s will – even if he seems to lose a little more of himself each time Zovaal exerts control. At least there is still hope that Anduin can be rescued.
What do you think of this cutscene? A cool cliffhanger that brings hope for more story with Anduin? Or another piece of “butchered Warcraft history”?
