Right now, you can earn a lot of gold effortlessly in World of Warcraft. Farming resources has never been so simple and rewarding.
In World of Warcraft, you are at a loss without gold. Whether it’s for repairing your own equipment, buying potions, enchantments, or the occasional reward in the form of an expensive mount. Gold is important, and you can never really have enough of it.
One of the simplest methods to earn gold is farming. Especially in The War Within, there are a whole bunch of items that you can farm quite easily and then sell for a lot of gold.
In the last few days, I spent a lot of time farming while watching series or chatting with the guild on Discord. In doing so, I earned a significant amount of gold almost unnoticed. You can make between 60,000 and 90,000 gold per hour – for quite trivial activities that require hardly any attention.
The three tips that I want to share with you should be applicable to most of you.
Farm herbs and ores on the same character
The simplest but most important tip: Use a character that employs both gathering professions, namely mining and herbalism. If you combine this with a flask of clear sight, you can virtually fly continuously between the various locations of herbs and ores without ever having to take a break.
Make sure to learn the ability to gather herbs and ores while riding as early as possible.
In addition, you should invest in good profession gear early on. This increases the amount of resources found and gives a significant long-term gold boost.
How much gold you earn by farming this way largely depends on how efficiently you proceed and whether you occasionally manage to snag the best resources (3 stars).
Per hour, I’m making around 40,000 to 60,000 gold just from farming ores and herbs here. However, there would probably be more if I optimized my routes and didn’t consume some for personal use.
Collect wax and treasures for even more loot
Wax is not only important for goblins but also for you – as you can exchange it with the goblins for neat rewards. However, collecting wax has several other advantages. Because you can obtain all kinds of resources from wax deposits.
You can find wax literally everywhere in The War Within. It’s little, purple lumps of wax that you can see on the ground. They are not displayed on the minimap, but their purple edges are easy to spot – better on green backgrounds (like on the island of Thorns or Healing Crash) than in other areas.
The interesting thing is: You not only get wax but often also other resources from the different professions. Everything from fish to ores and fabrics is included. You can even find already processed materials, including items like:
- Core Alloy
- Handful of Bismuth Bolts
- Apricate Ink
There is something from all professions. You can sell these materials directly in the auction house, as they are needed permanently. This yields several hundred gold pieces.
The “big win” you can get from wax is the Profane Tinderbox. This material is only available from treasures and wax and fetches prices in the auction house between 7,000 and 10,000 gold, as it is required for many recipes. (Update: The price for the tinderbox has fallen drastically as there is now a vendor where you can buy them.)
The best farming spot for this, in my opinion, is Healing Crash. Because there you not only find wax but also many treasures that are displayed on your minimap. This increases the yield and your chance of getting the gold-bringing tinderbox. But all other resources are also worth a nice amount.
Note that the yield from wax improves when you increase your fame with the faction “The Convent of the Deep”.
A fish that brings a lot of gold
If you prefer a more relaxed approach and plan to skill some fishing, you should also swing your fishing rod primarily in Healing Crash or Azj-Kahet. Because here you can catch the Kaheti Slum Shark.
This fish currently costs a hefty 400 gold in the auction house. This is because the fish is needed for the best feast, and many guilds and raid groups require it.
You can probably catch the fish with a good chance from the Blood in the Water swarm – both in Healing Crash and Azj-Kahet. More rarely, there are also swarms of this shark directly in Azj-Kahet.
Depending on how many swarms you manage to engage per hour – which also depends on spawn rates – you can earn around 12,000 to 20,000 gold in 60 minutes. This is significantly less than with the other methods, but you increase your fishing skill and have a bit of variety.
The combination brings the gold
I combine all these methods by mostly rotating in Healing Crash, opening treasures, gathering herbs and ores, fishing in the blood, and collecting every wax deposit I can find. This gets me around 70,000 gold per hour – sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less.
Keep in mind with all the tips that prices for reagents will likely fall week by week. So, if you want to get a few hundred thousand gold with relatively little effort, you should start farming right away.
Of course, there are methods where you can earn much more gold. Auction house moguls can earn multiples of that, but it requires a lot of starting capital, attention, and knowledge of the in-game market. Guilds can also earn much more with “sell-runs” through raids.
The bottom line is that the methods mentioned above require very little attention, knowledge, and skill. Basically, anyone can easily replicate them and build a small gold cushion that can last a long time.
The many resources will surely be needed for the “World First Race,” which starts in a few hours. However, some people might be excluded from it, as some professionals are currently using a nasty exploit to obtain infinite gear.
