Paladin Rextroy is cleaning up in World of Warcraft again. This time he solo kills the current raid boss Il’gynoth – here’s how it worked.
In World of Warcraft, there are a few “living legends” that have built a reputation over the years. One of them is certainly Paladin Rextroy, about whom we have reported several times. From time to time, he defeats current raid bosses like Vectis solo or discovers exploits of game mechanics that everyone else has missed. Even in Patch 8.3 Visions of N’Zoth, he is causing havoc again and racking up one major success after another.
What happened? Rextroy has become the first player in the world to master the boss fight against Il’gynoth in the current Ny’alotha raid – all solo. Some groups still struggle on normal difficulty against this boss, but he has already mastered it solo.
How was this possible? Rextroy plays a Paladin, which works well for soloing bosses in World of Warcraft due to their high armor and strong self-healing. But that’s far from enough.
To defeat Il’gynoth, he collected items with versatility and also benefited from new corruption effects that increase versatility as well. Versatility is a stat that increases the damage dealt by a certain percentage while reducing the damage taken by half that percentage. Essentially, it’s the perfect stat to increase your damage output while being able to withstand more.
Azerite abilities helped: Additionally, he combined several talents, essences, and Azerite abilities. In Phase 2, for instance, he gathered a particularly high number of additional enemies and did not kill them. This allows him to throw his Shield of Vengeance almost every second and deal solid damage from a distance. This combines well with his essences that grant him more versatility the more enemies are nearby.
Furthermore, with all these effects, he achieves a self-healing of just over 120,000 health per second – even a real healer could hardly keep up with that.
Other players are also seeking ways to accomplish crazy feats during the content drought. A player from Method is currently doing Ny’alotha on mythic with a pure tank group.
Have you also accomplished such feats? Do you find Rextroy’s deeds impressive? Or is it a case of “anyone can do it with a Paladin”?
