Is Blizzard already announcing the next WoW expansion at Gamescom? Or is the developer tweet just misleading?
The provisional end of the Legion seems to be just a matter of a patch in World of Warcraft – namely, update 7.3, which is currently on the test server and includes the planet Argus as well as the raid Antorus, the Burning Throne. We have provided you with a preview of the new raid here.
But when the end of the Legion is announced, does that also mean the next expansion is on the horizon? Typically, nearly a year passes between the release of the last patch and the subsequent expansion – but Blizzard wants to be faster.
As reported by Buffed, a developer tweet is now causing a stir. A WoW developer asked on Twitter, completely out of context: “Is it already Gamescom?”
Gamescom takes place from August 22 to August 26 and is the largest gaming fair in the world. Developers often announce new features here.
Cinematic Director – is he talking about the patch trailer or an expansion teaser?
Since Terran Gergory is the “In-Game Cinematic Project Director” of World of Warcraft, fans can expect an in-game cinematic. Possibly a trailer. But what will the trailer be for? The upcoming patch 7.3, or does the GamesCom already have the next expansion in mind?
Mein-MMO believes: We find it much more likely that only the official trailer for patch 7.3 will be released at GamesCom. It would be tactically unwise to announce the next expansion before the final patch is even active. The story surrounding the Legion is not yet finished, so one would “take the wind out of one’s sails” by presenting players with a new expansion already.
But who knows – maybe this GamesCom has more surprises in store than we can speculate right now.
A possible expansion would be “Shadow of Kul Tiras,” as envisioned by the Red Shirt Guy.
