In WoW: Dragonflight you need a lot of gold. We at MeinMMO reveal how you can farm gold well without resorting to complicated mechanisms.
Even though a lot has changed in World of Warcraft over the years, one detail rarely changes: gold is important and is needed by all players. Whether it’s to cover repair costs after dungeons and raids, to buy crafting materials, or stylish gear – gold is necessary.
But the days of gold rush in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight are over. Now there is so much competition, especially with the professions, that earning gold has become quite difficult.
Therefore, we present you with methods to reliably earn gold and achieve solid returns with minimal time investment.
Dragonriding World Quests
Although the dragonriding feature is controversial among some players, the associated world quests are a solid source of income for gold. Completing each dragonriding world quest grants you a “Dragonrider’s Coin Pouch”. This pouch contains an average of 530 gold coins.
For the reward, it does not matter which flight course you complete or how fast you are. You can simply choose the easiest variant and take your time if you’re not great at dragon flying.
Also note that this tip is scalable. The more characters you have at level 70, the more frequently you can complete the world quests and the more gold you earn.
Typically, there are 4 dragonriding world quests available after each world quest reset (Wednesdays and Saturdays), which means about 2,100 gold.
Those with limited time each week but wanting to cover general expenses in WoW will find dragonriding world quests to be a good option.
World Quests with Pure Gold Rewards
In addition to dragonriding quests, there are other world quests that directly offer gold as a reward. Which quests that applies to is however random.
The gold yield from these quests has recently been significantly increased. For each world quest, you receive between 300 and 800 gold, with elite quests being particularly generous and sometimes dropping up to 2,000 gold. These can usually be completed within seconds using the group finder.
A small tip: In war mode, the gold reward from these world quests is increased, so you receive another 10% to 30% more gold. So activate the war mode in Valdrakken before you tackle these world quests.
Weekly Reputation Quest
Each week you can accept a quest in Valdrakken in front of the large stairs to the seat of the aspects. The mission requires you to collect 3,000 reputation points and usually also requires you to complete another task – either participating in the cooking event, a wild hunt, or the siege of the citadel.
What many overlook, however, is that additional coin pouches may be present in the reward chest! A small (blue) pouch provides around 1,500 gold upon opening. But there is also an epic pouch, containing between 13,000 and 16,000 gold!
Since you usually complete the weekly quest “on the side,” you should accept it every Wednesday – otherwise you might regret it later.
Moved Earth and Tuskarr Bait Boxes
Disregarded by many, but with gray items you can earn a lot of gold in WoW: Dragonflight. Two sources are especially important for this:
Moved Earth: This earth is marked on your minimap as a small treasure chest. You can see it when you have reached at least Fame level 5 with the Dragonshard Expedition and have shovels in your inventory. You can buy them directly from the Dragonshard Expedition or a blacksmith.
Tuskarr Bait Boxes: You unlock the Tuskarr Bait Boxes much later, specifically at Fame level 27 with the Tuskarr from Iskaara. You can find the bait boxes at all bodies of water; they are also shown as small treasure chests.
Both the bait boxes and the moved earth yield a lot of gray items and some less profitable resources. However, the gray items can be particularly rewarding, as the “junk items” often have a high resale value. Between 5 and 800 gold can be found in each of these small treasures.
The only downside is that these treasures quickly clutter your inventory. So make sure you have enough space before starting your farming session.
Herbalism and Mining
Even though this isn’t a new revelation, it is still true in Dragonflight. The two “big” gathering professions, Herbalism and Mining, continue to be solid sources of income for quickly earning some gold.
However, new in Dragonflight is the specialization in different areas. If you want to reliably earn gold, you should initially invest 40 knowledge points into the profession, so you can also gather herbs or ores while mounted. After that, you should focus on elemental specializations. This will increase your yield from “special” deposits of ores and herbs.
In Dragonflight, there are many herbs and ores that are infused with elemental energies. For example, there are hardened ore deposits or wind-swept plants. When you gather these resources, additional “raging” elements can be produced. These are needed for a variety of recipes and therefore command a solid price in the auction house.
Methods Can Be Combined
The most profitable approach is when you can combine several of the methods. If you have a character that has both herbalism and mining, enough shovels for the moved earth, and can already see the Tuskarr bait boxes, then you are optimally set up. You can then just fly from point to point on your minimap and open or collect something every few meters.
Simply listen to a good podcast or watch a series on the side, and time will fly. By the end of your farming session, you should have a lot of gold – part of it already through the direct sale of the gray items to the merchant, the rest later through the auctions of the resources.
Are there other methods?
Yes, of course. You can also farm old content and collect raw gold or transmog items, which you then sell in the auction house. Alternatively, you can try to manipulate the auction house and take over the market for certain resources or buy materials cheaply and sell them at a higher price.
These methods can yield significantly more profit than pure “farming” – but they are highly speculative or subject to a high degree of randomness. Therefore, we advise against these methods or only recommend them if you are well-versed in the subject. But let’s be honest – if you’re already an auction house mogul, then this guide probably hasn’t provided you with any new knowledge.
Sometimes you just have to be lucky to earn gold – or “fleece poor role-players” in a nasty way.
