The guide contains spoilers about the story and plot of Battle for Azeroth.
Allied Races in Battle for Azeroth: Dark Iron Dwarves
The Dark Iron Dwarves are the “dark brothers” of the Dwarves from Ironforge and the Wildhammer Dwarves. They live in Blackrock Mountain and were slaves under the Elemental Lord Ragnaros for a long time. They join the Alliance thanks to Moira Thaurissan, daughter of Magni Bronzebeard, who married the former Emperor of the Dark Iron Dwarves.
The racial abilities of Dark Iron Dwarves
- Fireblood: Removes all poison, disease, curse, magic, and bleeding effects and increases your primary stat by 231 and additionally by 77 per removed effect. Lasts for 8 seconds. 2-minute cooldown.
- Digging Machine: Summons a digging machine that burrows through the ground in outdoor areas. 30-minute cooldown.
- Flameforged: Reduces damage taken from physical attacks by 1 percent. Passive.
- Mass Production: Increases smithing skill by 5 and smithing speed by 25 percent. Passive.
- Underground: Move 4 percent faster indoors. Passive.
Classes: Dark Iron Dwarves can become Warriors, Paladins, Hunters, Rogues, Priests, Shamans, Mages, Warlocks, or Monks.
The requirements to unlock Dark Iron Dwarves
- You must own Battle for Azeroth.
- The character with which you want to unlock the race must have reached level 120.
- You must have completed the Alliance War Campaign.
- You must have a Revered reputation with the 7th Legion.
The recruitment scenario
The Dark Iron Dwarves help the Alliance in researching the new material Azerite. To see the progress of the specialists, an envoy invites you to Blackrock Mountain. However, they are attacked by Goblins.
The blacksmith hammer Ironbane has been stolen, and you must help the Dark Iron Dwarves reclaim it. With the hammer, the dwarves can process the Azerite on the Black Anvil while you protect them.
After you help the dwarves process the Azerite, you will be sent back. They will then join the Alliance as an allied race.
Heritage Armor and mount
The Heritage Armor is a cosmetic transmog for your armor. If you want to have the Heritage Armor of the Dark Iron Dwarves, you must play a Dark Iron Dwarf from level 120 from the start.
You start at level 20 and may not use a level boost. However, you may use heirlooms and potions like the Elixir of Ancient Knowledge or the Elixir of the Stormcrafter.
The race-specific mount, a Core Hound, will likely be obtained along with the achievement for the allied race after completing the scenario.
Allied Races in Battle for Azeroth: Mag’har Orcs
The Mag’har Orcs are a surviving tribe of Orcs in the alternate Draenor from Warlords of Draenor who refused to drink the demonic blood. Their skin did not turn green but remained brown. Their chieftain is Grommash Hellscream, who did not die in the battle against Mannoroth in this world.
They join the Horde through the help of the war hero Eitrigg, who leads them from alternate Draenor to present-day Azeroth.
The racial abilities of the Mag’har
- Call of the Ancestors: Calls upon the spirits of your ancestors who grant you their power. Increases a secondary stat by 102 for 15 seconds. 2-minute cooldown.
- Free Wind: Increases your mount speed by 10%. Passive.
- Compassionate Lifeforce: Increases health of companions by 10%. Passive.
- Wildblood: Reduces the duration of poisons, diseases, and curses by 10%. Passive.
Classes: Mag’har Orcs can become Warriors, Hunters, Rogues, Priests, Shamans, Mages, or Monks.
The requirements to unlock Mag’har Orcs
- You must own Battle for Azeroth.
- The character with which you want to unlock the race must have reached level 120.
- You must have completed the Horde War Campaign.
- You must have a Revered reputation with the Honorbound.
The recruitment scenario
The scenario begins when the Orc Eitrigg convinces Sylvanas to open a portal to alternate Draenor. He intends to recruit the Mag’har there to strengthen the Horde on Azeroth.
However, upon arriving in Draenor, you discover that the Draenei living there have developed a fanatical belief in the Light and begin to force the Orcs under their will. Those who do not comply die.
The Draenei are convinced they must convert their world. Chieftain Grommash Hellscream resists this and sacrifices himself so that you can flee back to Azeroth with the Mag’har through the portal.
Heritage Armor and mount
You will obtain the Heritage Armor of the Mag’har just like that of the Dark Iron Dwarves, presumably by leveling a Mag’har from level 20 to max level. Heirlooms and experience potions are allowed, but no level boosts of any kind.
The mount of the Mag’har, a black wolf, will also likely come along with the achievement after the scenario.
When can the allied races be unlocked? Both races will be playable with the release of Battle for Azeroth on August 14. From then on, you will only need to meet the requirements.
