The new expansion WoW: Dragonflight offers several versions for purchase. But which one is worth it for you? We have explained it in detail.
Relatively unexpectedly, Blizzard suddenly started the pre-sale of the next expansion WoW: Dragonflight. Almost “in passing,” the developers also revealed a rough release date. For the various versions of the pre-sale, it is clear that Dragonflight is supposed to be released by December 31, 2022 at the latest.
This not only fuels anticipation but also puts players in a tough decision: Should you purchase Dragonflight in the pre-sale? And which of the versions is the right one? Is the Base Edition enough, or should you opt for the Heroic or even Epic variant? Or perhaps go for the especially deluxe Collector’s Edition?
To make your decision a bit easier, we’ll reveal what’s included in the individual versions and explain which one is the most worthwhile for you.
Buy WoW Dragonflight: What’s included in the versions?
What’s included in the Base Edition: Priced at €49.99, the Base Edition is significantly the cheapest offer, but it also comes with the least content. It contains:
- The expansion Dragonflight
- Access to the Dracthyr Summoners (new class/race), with the possibility that they will be playable before the release of Dragonflight
What’s included in the Heroic Edition: At €69.99, the Heroic Edition is significantly more expensive, but it includes even more goodies. Included are:
- All content from the Base Edition
- A character boost for Dragonflight to level 60, so you have a character ready for the start of the new expansion.
- The flying mount “Entwined Dreamweaver”
- The battle pet “Murkastrasza”
What’s included in the Epic Edition: The most luxurious variant is the Epic Edition, which costs a proud €89.99 and is therefore quite an investment. However, Blizzard also includes some additional content that is supposed to justify the price. These are:
- All content from the Base Edition and Heroic Edition
- Toy “Timewalker’s Hearthstone”
- Head transmutation “Diadem of the Spellkeeper”
- Back transmogrification “Wings of Awakening” in 5 different colors (black, red, blue, green, bronze) – these are wings for your character.
- 30 days of game time
Is there a pre-order bonus? Yes. Regardless of which version you buy, there is an additional bonus for pre-orderers, specifically the pet “Drakks”. This is a cute little humanoid dragon, basically a mini-version of a Dracthyr.
It is only available if you purchase Dragonflight during the pre-order phase – that is, up until the release. However, it is possible that Drakks can also be purchased separately later in the in-game shop if you miss this opportunity.
Which edition of Dragonflight should you buy?
Which edition of the game you ultimately buy is primarily a question of budget. However, if you can dig deeper into your pockets, you may not necessarily want to do it – which is why we have some guidelines here to help you figure out which edition is the right one for you.
If you just want to play Dragonflight and don’t care about transmogs, toys, and mounts, then opt for the Base Edition for just under €50. There’s no rush, as the pre-sale only offers an additional pet and possibly earlier access to the Dracthyr.
If you collect mounts and/or want a character boost to level 60, you should go for the Heroic Edition. Just the character boost would normally cost a whopping €60, so you save quite a bit here. If you don’t need the boost, €20 for the dragon mount is the price you would otherwise pay in the shop for a comparable mount.
If you collect pets, mounts, and toys, you can confidently opt for the expensive Epic Edition for €90. Here, it is important to note that the Epic Edition also includes 30 days of game time, which you would eventually need to purchase one way or another.
Thus, if you deduct the €13 for game time, the upgrade from the Heroic to the Epic Edition actually only costs €7, and for that, you get 6 transmogrification items and a toy.
What about the Collector’s Edition?
Yes, there is one as well. It is physical and must be pre-ordered directly from the Blizzard shop. The contents are the same as the Epic Edition, but there are also physical goodies like an art book, a mouse pad, and pins. We have presented the exact contents of the Collector’s Edition here.
Will you pre-order Dragonflight? Or do you prefer to wait for the release and first reviews?
