With the penultimate expansion Battle for Azeroth, the feature of allied races has also made its way into World of Warcraft. The allied races are new races that you can play once you have unlocked them. How to do this will be explained here.

Allied Races with WoW: Dragonflight
With the release of Patch 9.0.1 on October 14, 2020, a large part of the requirements was lifted. You only had to complete the questlines associated with the respective races. Farming reputation was no longer necessary.
With Patch 10.1.5 of Dragonflight, these requirements have been drastically lowered again. You now only need a character at level 40 and can then directly accept the corresponding questline at the embassy in your capital city!
This makes it possible to unlock all allied races with little effort.
General Information about the Allied Races
What are Allied Races? Allied races are new races in WoW that share some details with already existing races. Unlike completely new races, they typically share the model with related races and only have different customization options, a different appearance, unique voices, and emotes.
Additionally, they all have unique abilities that set them apart from other races. Unlike standard races, they must first be unlocked, as they have to ally with a faction in the storyline.
The latest allied races are the Vulpera and the Mechagnomes, bringing the total to 10 allied races – 5 for the Horde and 5 for the Alliance.
With The War Within come the Earthen Dwarves.
Common Requirements for the Allied Races
You only need to meet a few requirements, which differ for the various races. Once you have met the requirements, a short questline follows, starting at your embassy (duration: between 20 and 60 minutes). The embassy can be found in Stormwind (Alliance) or Orgrimmar (Horde).

These Rewards Await You
Those who unlock the allied races will receive some additional rewards. Some more can be unlocked additionally:
Heritage Armor: If you play a new character of an allied race at level 50 (without character boost or race change), you will receive unique heritage armor, also known as “Heritage Armor”.
Heritage armor is a cosmetic item that corresponds to the style of the race. They are used for transmog and can only be worn by representatives of their own race. Once unlocked, you can also apply them to lower-level characters. Example: If you unlock the heritage armor with a Void Elf at level 50, you can transmog it with a Void Elf at level 20.
Mounts: Each allied race has its own mount. You receive it upon completing the quest that unlocks the race. The mount can be used by all characters, regardless of which race they belong to.
