World of Warcraft Dragonflight introduces a new class. We will look at what it can do and what makes it unique.
One of the biggest features of the new expansion “Dragonflight” is the introduction of a new class. The “Evokers” join the Horde and Alliance and are expected to bring new visuals and cool synergies, shaking things up in PvE and PvP.
What are the Evokers? The Evokers are not only a new class but also a distinct race. The Dracthyr originate from the Dragon Isles. The principle is: All Dracthyr are Evokers, and only Dracthyr can become Evokers. Thus, class and race are inseparably linked.
The Evokers harness the powers of the five dragonflights to cast spells, execute powerful breath attacks, or manipulate time for healing.
Similar to Demon Hunters, the Dracthyr have only 2 specializations:
- Devastation: A ranged specialization with medium range. It uses various breath attacks and claws to deal significant damage.
- Preservation: A healing specialization that utilizes the magic of the green and bronze dragonflights to invoke and accelerate healing.
What armor do Dracthyr use? Chain mail. This is the rarest armor type used so far, so it was only logical to give the new class this type of gear. They will thus compete with Shamans and Hunters for loot.
New game mechanic: Empowering – A new feature that only the Dracthyr have is essentially a whole new gameplay mechanic. Some of the Dracthyr’s abilities can be empowered and charged. To do this, you need to hold down the corresponding ability key instead of just tapping it briefly. As long as the key is held down, a progress bar charges up. If released at the right moment, the corresponding ability is empowered, resulting in additional effects or simply greater effectiveness.
What sounds like a minor change on paper drastically alters the play style and rhythm with which one plays World of Warcraft. It gives the Dracthyr a unique, varied twist and is likely to provide even long-time veterans with a new gaming experience.
Numerous customization options: Dracthyr resemble Worgen in a certain way, as they have two outward appearances. One is their Dracthyr form, in which they fight. Here, their body is more reptilian, covered in scales and embodying a very draconic being. The second form is humanoid in nature and resembles a mixture of human and blood elf in body proportions. Thus, women have narrower hips, and men are slightly less bulky.
There are plenty of customization options available. Whether it’s the shape and color of the scales, the intensity of the draconic traits, or even different, blended hair colors, everything is possible.
What is the story of the Dracthyr? The Dracthyr were once created by Neltharion, long before he was known as “Deathwing.” Neltharion tried to unite the powers of the dragons and bind them into the bodies of the primalists – thus, the Dracthyr were created. Lore-wise, the Dracthyr are a kind of “dragon supersoldiers” and thus a true hero class.
Despite their great power, they have a disadvantage: very little experience. Dracthyr are just beginning to find their place and role in the world, which is why they have a rather youthful, curious, and inquisitive personality that can at times veer into naivety.
Where do Dracthyr start? Unlike other classes, Dracthyr begin at level 58. They can join the Horde or Alliance and quest through a starting area specifically created for them. This starting area is meant to introduce the story of the Dracthyr and familiarize them with their unique playstyle – other starting areas simply couldn’t deliver that.
We will surely learn more about the Dracthyr once the beta starts. You can sign up for the Dragonflight beta here.
