Since WotLK, many fans want to play the Tuskarr in World of Warcraft. With Dragonflight, this seems possible – but with a big catch. Because they probably won’t be a real playable race for now.
What kind of race is this? The Tuskarr appeared in World of Warcraft in 2008 with the release of Wrath of the Lich King. This anthropomorphic race resembles walruses, is traditionally somewhat chubby, and lives on the icy coasts of the north.
Since their introduction, players have always wished they could choose them as a playable race. They would fit especially well as hunters, but also as druids with special saber-tooth forms.
With the allied races in Battle for Azeroth, the desire has been rekindled. There are even dedicated Wiki entries for the Tuskarr as a playable race, even though they have never been introduced.
With the new expansion Dragonflight, the Tuskarr will receive a visual overhaul with a new appearance and finally female versions, as well as children and their own mounts.
On reddit, the rumor mill has been boiling since April. And indeed, we learned from the latest Alpha that you can play as a Tuskarr – just not as a real playable race.

Cooking makes you a Tuskarr – But only briefly
This is how you become a Tuskarr: In the latest Alpha build of Dragonflight, cooking is included. Professions will receive a major overhaul in Dragonflight, including cooking.
One of the new desserts in the game is walrus muffins. The description simply states: “Delicious… ?” If you eat a muffin, you will receive a buff that transforms you into a Tuskarr for 20 minutes. This was discovered by the colleagues at wowhead.
Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to test how this looks yet because the recipe requires buttermilk, which we currently cannot purchase. But this fits well with the crazy alchemy potions from Dragonflight.
What we could test, however, was the new Caller class for a whole 7 hours. This is tied to the new race of Dracthyr. We have included gameplay of the Caller for you here:
While something similar could be done earlier with toys, the Tuskarr now play a larger role. They have new architecture, new models, and their own faction mounts – everything a playable race needs.
However, whether the Tuskarr will really come as a playable race is uncertain. Fans suspect they wouldn’t have received such a comprehensive overhaul just to stand around as NPCs. The same hope they also have for the Naga.
If the Tuskarr don’t say anything to you in the original: WotLK Classic is supposed to be released in 2022, according to leaks possibly on September 26. There you can take a closer look at the pals with the big tusks.
You can get a look at them for yourself with the release of Dragonflight. The release is expected to happen in 2022, with current estimates pointing to November. However, there is still no specific date.
