On the PTR of Patch 10.0.7 of World of Warcraft, there is new information. A “queen” is likely to return soon – and wants to rule over everything.
With Patch 10.0.7, Blizzard is bringing a lot of new story details that already give a rough idea of how the plot will continue. It is already clear that with Update 10.1, we will probably enter an underground area. However, even more clues have been found on the PTR of Patch 10.0.7. Because it seems that an old adversary will soon return and bring a lot of scaly friends with her.
What was found? In Patch 10.0.7, we will encounter the first Naga on the Dragon Isles. They can be found on the forbidden island and in some caves. Particularly exciting is the fact that in one of the Naga caves a book can be found titled “A Song of the Depths.” Here is the translated text:
A Song of the Depths
(Page 1)
Arise, arise! Our queen calls to us from behind the shadow veil. She has overcome the circle of stars and bathes in her eternal majesty!
The time we have waited for so long is near.
Even now, the harbinger gathers the children of the first flesh to regain what was lost. They must remember their oaths and serve those to whom they have pledged loyalty.
(Page 2)
While they toil in the depths, we will journey to the coasts of the Dragon Isles, to the blessed island where the worldbreaker first accepted the whispers.
When one storm recedes, another rises. The torches have been lit. The secrets he has buried will pierce the hearts of his kind like daggers!
(Page 3)
The harbinger speaks of a primordial power that seeks the end of order. Such wrath can be guided to serve our purposes.
A hunger lost in the ages will be brought back.
A dark heart left broken waits to be claimed.
(Page 4)
When these things have come to pass, the harbinger will fulfill the final prophecy and complete the awakening.
Only then shall our queen return to rule over the seas, the skies, and the earth. We must prepare.
Arise, arise! Soon everything that was hidden will be revealed.
Note in this translation that we do not yet know exactly how some words will be in the German version. For example, “the harbinger” could just as well be “the harbinger female” – this unfortunately is not clear from the English original.
What does this mean? Even though the text – as is often the case in World of Warcraft – is very cryptic, people are actively speculating about its meaning. At least for one role, there seems to be a consensus. The “queen” being referred to is likely Azshara. Because the book is found in a cave of the Naga. They have a queen and Azshara is currently revered, making descriptions like “she bathes in her own glory” fit perfectly.
The “lit torches” have been a topic for many years and were already announced in Legion. They seem to be the oath stones we activated in 10.0. Their shape resembles that of a torch.
The role of the “harbinger” is more controversial, although many see Alexstrasza here. She is currently gathering the “children of the first flesh” – which strictly speaking means all living beings in Azeroth, namely the heroes. The “first flesh” were the Old Gods and only through the curse of flesh are there the various peoples of Azeroth. The “primordial power” that seeks the “end of order” is likely the Primalists led by the original incarnations. Alexstrasza could lose herself in wrath and become susceptible to manipulation.
Even though there are several theories and interpretations, this seems to be the most common one.
The most likely scenario is: While we are “in the depths” in Patch 10.1, the Naga will strike and unearth something on the Dragon Isles that will then cause chaos in an upcoming patch.
What exactly they are planning is still uncertain. Some believe it is a revival of an Old God, while others think that the beast Galakrond is to be resurrected.
In any case, Blizzard is leaving small hints here to tease the future story… or to lead us all on a false trail.
What happened to Azshara? We last saw the former queen of the night elves and current leader of the Naga in Battle for Azeroth. There she helped the Old God N’Zoth to be freed from his prison. Azshara was defeated in the process and was pulled by N’Zoth through a shadowy portal. Afterwards, we encountered Azshara again in Ny’alotha, the last raid of the expansion. Here she was tortured by the boss “Xanesh”.
When players defeated the boss, Azshara freed herself and declared that she had “had enough of intermediaries and heralds.” The “true throne of power calls” and she “intends to claim it for herself.” And apparently, that time has come.
What do you think the text means? How will the story of Dragonflight continue?
