The potions in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight reach a new level of absurdity. We have listed the craziest effects for you.
Potions and flasks have a long tradition in World of Warcraft. In many guilds, they are mandatory or standard, as their effects can be the tipping point to finally defeat a challenging boss. Generally, the effects of such alchemical products are relatively straightforward: you drink them and then perform better in battle – as long as you stay alive.
But with Dragonflight, this formula is overturned. For there are potions that you can only drink when your character has already died. There are also potions that have a negative effect if you are not careful. We will show you the crazy new effects of potions and flasks in Dragonflight.
What kinds of potions are there? A whole bunch, and most of them have pretty wild effects. Potions adhere to the familiar “Kiss/Curse” scheme – that is, a strong, positive effect that also brings some drawbacks. A few of the “tamer” variants are these:
- Potion of Chilled Clarity: Reduces the mana cost of spells by 100%, but increases the casting time by 20% for 14 seconds.
- Potion of Frozen Focus: Drink this potion to put your body in a heightened state, regenerating 14,000 mana over 10 seconds, but you are defenseless during that time until your focus is broken.
These potions are already available in similar forms. However, Dragonflight also brings some potions with significantly more devastating effects, such as the “Super Healing Potion”, which comes with a pretty significant downside:
- Potion of Withering Vitality: Drink the vile brew to heal yourself for 75,000 health points instantly, but you will suffer the same amount as damage over 15 seconds.
This can help absorb spikes of damage, but you must be constantly healed afterward to avoid dying.
Potions Made for the Dead
It gets especially absurd with the potions that you can use while you are dead. That’s right. Please don’t question how your character still reaches into the backpack and takes a sip while dead, but there will also be the following potions with Dragonflight:
- Residual Neural Channeling Agent: While you are dead, your consciousness attacks the enemy’s awareness with the remnants of your own, causing 18,000 damage over 18 seconds. If you are resurrected, the remaining damage is dealt immediately. Releasing your spirit allows your consciousness to return to you and ends the effect.
- Delicate Suspension of Spores: Use this on a fallen ally to spread healing spores that latch onto allies, healing them for 12,000 over 6 seconds. Can be applied to yourself while you are dead.
Also interesting are some of the new flasks. These will replace the previous flasks and also come with a “Kiss/Curse” effect:
- Phial of Icy Preservation: As long as you have over 50% health points, your damage taken is reduced by 6%, but increased by 6% as long as you are below 50% health points.
- Iced Phial of Corrupting Rage: Gain Corrupting Rage, granting you 330 critical strike rating. After you have suffered damage equal to 100% of your health points, you temporarily switch to Overwhelming Rage, dealing 100% of your health points as nature damage over 30 seconds.
These two flasks are quite interesting and clearly have strong effects that can backfire significantly if you take too much damage in battle.
Keep in mind that the exact values and effects of the potions may change – after all, Dragonflight is still only in Alpha.
What else is changing in alchemy? A lot. Like with all professions, there will be different quality levels for alchemical products in the future. These will determine how strong a brew is and how long the effect lasts. While professionals will probably always want only the best of the best, this will also create a large market where lower quality potions will be sold at bargain prices. These can be purchased more cheaply and thrown back without the worry of having to regret spending a small fortune.
What do you think of the new effects of the potions? A cool thing, or are potions while dead just absurd?
