The new expansion Dragonflight for World of Warcraft is just around the corner. As always, there are plenty of cool mounts on the Dragon Isles waiting to become part of your collection. MeinMMO reveals how to earn the new mounts.
How do you earn the mounts? Most new mounts will be available as rewards for a variety of activities you can complete daily in the game, just like in previous expansions. You need to find hidden treasures, defeat rare enemies, or achieve certain feats.
However, some mounts are hidden behind tricky puzzles. Others can simply be purchased from vendors. Generally, you need to gain a certain amount of reputation with a faction to do so. Currently, it is particularly worthwhile to hunt for old mounts, as 5 of the rarest mounts are now available.
How many mounts are there on the Dragon Isles? Currently, around 30 mounts are known to be making their way to Azeroth with Dragonflight. That’s significantly fewer than in previous expansions, as the Shadowlands had over 100 mounts.
But don’t worry, in addition to the normal mounts, the Dragon Isles also bring the ability to ride dragons. This is an integral feature of the expansion. You will get your own dragon and can customize its appearance in detail.
It is also very likely that further mounts and customization options for your dragons will be implemented with later patches. By the way, Dragonflight will be released on November 29. Here are 3 things you should complete beforehand while you can.

Dragon Riding Made Easy
Throughout the Dragonflight campaign, you will gradually unlock 4 base forms. You can further customize these as you wish, such as through specific glyphs. Here we show you an addon that displays the locations of dragon riding glyphs. With a wide range of shapes, colors, and other features, your imagination knows no bounds.
The 4 base forms are:
- Renewed Proto-Dragon – You will receive this dragon as a reward for the achievement “Awakening Hope”. To do so, you must complete the quest lines at the coast of Awakening.
- Windborn Velocidrake – This dragon model will be available during the campaign. It is part of the quest lines in the Plains of Ohn’ahra.
- Highland Dragon – You will unlock this dragon during the campaign in the Azure Mountains.
- Cliffwild Drake – This dragon will also be available during the campaign. You will unlock it by completing the quest lines in the zone Thaldraszus.
Later, more customization options for your dragons will be added. So far, a Primalist form and a form for the Gladiator mount are known.
Lizi, Thunderback Chomper
What is this mount? Lizi, Thunderback Chomper is a large lizard.
How do I get it? To obtain this mount, you must complete the quest “Taming the Thunderback Made Easy”. You can find the quest in the Plains of Ohn’ahra, but before it begins, you must first reach Reputation Level 9 with the Centaurs of Maruuk.
Then you can start the quest “Sneaking In” with Initiate Radiya. You will find the NPC at the Springs of Ohn’Iri at coordinates 56.12 / 77.01. Once you have completed these quests, 5 more quests will become available. However, these have a 24-hour cooldown, so you can only complete one quest per day.
The tasks are quite simple: You must collect a certain amount of items, which you can also purchase from the auction house if necessary. The only item for the last quest is not available at the auction house; you must buy it from a vendor.
- Day 1 – Collect 20 units of “Fluorescent Liquid” from insects on the Dragon Isles. Where you farm doesn’t matter much, as all insect monsters drop this item.
- Day 2 – Collect 20 units of “Fibrous Leaf” from plant creatures on the Dragon Isles. All creatures of this type drop the item.
- Day 3 – Collect 10 “Thousandbite Piranha”. This fish can be fished anywhere on the Dragon Isles.
- Day 4 – Collect 20 units of “Woolly Mountain Fur” from mammoths or yaks on the Dragon Isles.
- Day 5 – Deliver 1 “Meluun’s Green Curry”. You can obtain this item from the NPC “Ohn Meluun”. You will find the vendor at coordinates 53.51 / 78.98.
You do not have to complete the quests on consecutive days. You can take as much time as you want between steps. This means that if you start the first quest on a Monday, you can either complete the second quest the next day or wait a few days later.
Zenet Chick
What is this mount? The Zenet Chick is a red bird.
How do I get it? The Zenet Chick hatches from the Zenet Egg, which is dropped by the monster Zenet Avis. You can find this mob in the Plains of Ohn’ahra near Teerakai at coordinates 31.6 / 64.0. It is a rare mob with a long respawn time, so you will need either a lot of luck or a bit of patience until you can snag the egg from the bird.
Shade Stalker
What is this mount? The Shade Stalker is a large mammoth with even larger tusks.
How do I get this mount? To obtain this mount, you need to complete the world event “Centaur Hunt.” To participate in the hunt, you need Reputation Level 5 with the Maruuk Centaurs.
The Centaur Hunt is a world event that can take place anywhere on the Dragon Isles. However, the Shade Stalker is only awarded for completing the first weekly completion of the world event. If you have more than one character participating in the hunt, you can increase your chances of obtaining the rare mount.
Divine Kiss of Ohn’ahra
What is this mount? This mount is also a bird. It shares the model with the Zenet Chick but is white instead of red.
How do I get this mount? This mount requires a bit more work. First, you need to reach Reputation Level 9 with the Maruuk Centaurs. You can find the Centaurs in the Plains of Ohn’ahra.
Look for Adept Radiya and start the quest line that the NPC offers you. Once completed, you can talk to the NPC “Godoloto.” After that, you will need to gather 3 different materials.
You can obtain the “Stolen Breath of Ohn’ahra” as loot from the last boss of the dungeon “Assault on the Nokhud.” You can purchase “Essence of Awakening” from the equipment master of the Maruuk Centaurs. You need Reputation Level 7 for this. The last item “Magnificent Incense” can be crafted by alchemists. Once you have gathered all the items, “Goldoloto” will offer you a quest. Complete this quest to add another mount to your collection.
Vorquin
What is this mount? The Vorquin are the mounts of the Dracthyr. These mounts come in several color variants. Additionally, you can acquire them with or without armor. A total of 8 versions are available.
How do I get this mount? You can obtain the Vorquin either in the starting area of the Dracthyr or in Valdrakken, the capital of the Dragon Isles:
Azureflutter Dragonfly, Deep Green Dragonfly, and Tamed Dragonfly
What is this mount? These two mounts share a model but differ in coloration. As the name suggests, they are dragonflies.
How do I get this mount? You acquire the mounts by reaching Reputation Level 25 with the Dragon Isles Expedition. You can either buy them directly or exchange them for various materials from the expansion.
Ottuks
What is this mount? Ottuks are cute otters, and you can acquire several of these adorable creatures.
How do I get this mount? For the Ivory Dealer’s Ottuk, you need to exchange 3 rings that you can loot in the dungeons of Dragonflight. The Iskaara Dealer’s Ottuk can be exchanged for 2 necklaces that you loot in the raids of Dragonflight. The otters are offered by Tattakiaka. You will find the vendor in the Azure Mountains.
You can buy the brown or yellow Scout Ottuk at Reputation Level 25 from the Tuskarr of Iskaara. The brown or yellow War Ottuks are available from the Tuskarr of Iskaara at the maximum Reputation Level 30.
Stormfang Salamanther
What is this mount? The Stormfang Salamanther is a lizard.
How do I get this mount? The Stormfang Salamanther can be purchased from Mythressa in Valdrakken for 2000 Elemental Overflow. You earn this resource by participating in the world event of the Primalist Invasions.
Armor Slapper
What is this mount? Armor Slapper is a snail. Made of lava!
How do I get this mount? The lava snail is obtained for the meta achievement “Hero’s Glory” in the dungeon category. So you need to complete various tricky tasks in the dungeons of Dragonflight.
Magma House
What is this mount? Magma House is also a lava snail, but this time completely with a shell.
How do I get this mount? Near the Obsidian Citadel, you can farm a “Hollow Magma Shell” from the mobs “Magma Siphoner” and “Basalt Snail”. This item that you need for Magma House can also be bought at the auction house.
Then head to the Scalesmasher Fortress, where you’ll find a large lava pool. At the bottom of this lava basin, you will find the “Empowered Snail.” Once you have the “Hollow Magma Shell” in your inventory, you can interact with the snail.
Once clicked, a channeling will start. You must successfully complete this, and then the mount will belong to you. But beware, the lava deals significant damage. So bring a healer along or use the toy “Eternal Horn of Lava Swimming,” which you can obtain for completing the first weekly quest of the Dragonflight Fortress.
Aggressive World Snail
What is this mount? Another lava snail!

Furious Magma Mammoth
What is this mount? The Furious Magma Mammoth is a fiery red mammoth with four tusks and intimidating armor.
How do I get this mount? This mount is the reward for the meta achievement for the raid “Vault of the Incarnations.”
Lofty Magma Mammoth
What is this mount? Another mammoth, also fiery red, but overall less intimidating.
How do I get this mount? Complete the achievement “Heavy Mammoth Theft.” The achievement takes place around the Obsidian Citadel at the Coast of Awakening. Malicious Saber-tooth
What is this mount? As the name suggests, these mounts are saber-toothed tigers. There is one version for the Alliance and one for the Horde.
How do I get this mount? The mounts are a PVP reward for the first season of Dragonflight. So you need to participate in rated arena matches or battlegrounds.
Hailstorm Armoredon
What is this mount? The Hailstorm Armoredon is a mix of lizard and dinosaur in blue and white colors.
How do I get this mount? This mount is a reward for the achievement “Keystone Master of Dragonflight: Season 1.” So you need to complete Mythic+ dungeons.
Liberator Slyvern
What is this mount? Slyvern are a mix of fox and wyvern; this one comes in a grayish coloration.
How do I get this mount? This is not yet known. Apparently, it has something to do with the rare mob “Brisenbiss” in the Azure Mountains. However, it is unclear whether the mount will drop as loot. You might have to invest some more work and time.
Tempestuous Skyclaw
What is this mount? The Skyclaw is also a Slyvern. This specimen is reddish-brown, like a fox.

Otterworldly Carrier Ottuk
What is this mount? This mount is a spectral otter.

Otto
What is this mount? Finally, another Ottuk, this time with a gray-blue color scheme.

More mounts from Dragonflight
