The Callers from World of Warcraft Dragonflight gain abilities in Shadowlands. They are presumably playable “soon”.
One of the major features of World of Warcraft Dragonflight will be the new race of Dracthyr with the new class Caller. This class can become both ranged damage dealers and healers, and is likely to offer many new gameplay possibilities. There has been speculation ahead of time whether the Callers of the Dracthyr will be playable before the release of Dragonflight – now there are some solid indications for it.
The Callers of the Dracthyr have received their own abilities for Shadowlands content.
What has been discovered? In the latest version of the Alpha of Dragonflight, the Callers of the Dracthyr have received their own covenant abilities and legendary items. There were already Anima powers in Torghast before, and now the set of “Shadowlands features” has been completed. Thus, Callers – in theory – are already able to participate in all activities in Shadowlands.
What kind of abilities are these? It seems that the Callers will receive the same ability across all covenants, which is relatively uninspired:
- Boon of the Covenants (Covenant Ability): You call upon the covenants of the Shadowlands for help to regenerate a large portion of your health points and increase your versatility by 10% for 5 seconds.
Passive: The covenants have granted you a portion of their power, increasing damage and healing by 4%. - Unity (Legendary Item): “Boon of the Covenants” passively increases the damage dealt and healing done by an additional 5%.
However, one should consider that Dracthyr are not really part of Shadowlands, and therefore a choice was likely made to select an ability that doesn’t need to be finely balanced over weeks and months. A “simple stat boost” seems to be simply the most practical solution here.
First gameplay of the Callers of the Dracthyr can be found here:
What does this mean? With the introduction of covenant abilities for Dracthyr, it seems increasingly likely that the Caller class will be playable before the launch of Dragonflight. Until now, this was merely speculation.
The fact that Blizzard is now making the effort to provide the new class with endgame features in Shadowlands clearly indicates that the Callers will be able to be played in advance – similar to what happened with Demon Hunters at the end of “Warlords of Draenor”.
Demon Hunters could already be played 3 weeks before the release of Legion – it seems likely that the Callers of the Dracthyr will face a similar fate with Dragonflight.
What about other content? For other “old” expansions, the Callers of the Dracthyr are likely not to receive any special playable content for the foreseeable future. So no one should expect to suddenly play a covenant campaign from Legion or retrieve two artifact weapons with the Dracthyr. Blizzard has already stated in advance that they want to make old content accessible to the Dracthyr, but specifically, no new content will be created for it.
The Shadowlands covenant abilities seem to be an exception, so that the Callers of the Dracthyr can already participate properly in the final weeks before the launch of Dragonflight and not lag behind the other classes.
Are you looking forward to the Callers of the Dracthyr? Or can you not relate to the class and the race at all?
