After it was announced that World of Warcraft is withdrawing from the Chinese market due to differences between NetEase and Blizzard, Tencent is now trying to fill this gap with its new MMORPG Tarisland on the home market. To this end, the developer also plans a global release on PC and mobile later this year. Check out the new announcement trailer for the closed beta.
What does the trailer show? The announcement trailer for the MMORPG Tarisland is a rendered video and not actual gameplay yet. With this video, Tencent wants to prepare for the upcoming “closed beta”.
While the viewer is led through beautiful villages and rivers, the looming danger and the battle against a giant dragon are also shown, which resembles some raids from Final Fantasy XIV, especially to Blizzard’s expansion Dragonflight.

What kind of game is this? Tarisland is an MMORPG developed by Tencent, a Chinese company. It is expected to be released globally later this year. According to a recent press release (via mmorpg.com), the developer describes its project as follows:
Tarisland is a project that our team has dedicated over the last 3 years to develop. For some of us, it is a game we have wished to develop and share with players for a decade. […] We are going back to the roots of what makes an MMORPG, paying the greatest attention to the smallest details and improving every bit of gameplay.

Tarisland promises nine completely customizable classes – question of gender lock remains
Tencent states that it will be available on PC and mobile. Furthermore, the developer describes the game as a huge sandbox MMORPG. Finally, the developer of the MMORPG states that it will offer nine completely customizable classes at release. Whether this also means that the prevalent gender lock in many Asian games will be removed remains unclear.
In detail, Tencent promises (via tarisglobal.com) the following features at release:
- No Pay2Win
- A seasonal system
- A varied class and talent selection
- Raids that include multiple phases
- Free trading system
- Cross-platform for PC and mobile
