The developers behind World of Warcraft want to relieve player frustration. Rare event mounts will likely become easier to obtain in the future.
In World of Warcraft, there are several hundred mounts. Some can be obtained from vendors, while others are rare drops from certain enemies. However, the most frustrating category consists of mounts that drop from specific enemies, which are only available for a few days each year, like the X-45 Heartbreaker rocket from the Valentine’s event. Blizzard acknowledges this frustration – and aims to change it.
What is the problem with the mount? The X-45 Heartbreaker (formerly “Pink Love Rocket”) is one of the rarest mounts in the game. This is due not only to the low drop rate but also to the fact that the mount can only be farmed during 2 weeks each year – specifically during the Valentine’s event.
- The mount can only be obtained by characters above level 50.
- The reward chest containing the mount can only be earned once per character each day.
- The drop chance for the mount is 0.03% – meaning a chance of 1 in 3333.
The result of these figures is that many players now have several hundreds or even thousands of visits to the event boss and still do not possess the rocket.
Moreover, the task is not only monotonous but also requires a significant time investment. Anyone visiting the event boss on 20, 30, or even all 50 characters of their account day after day must plan for 2-4 hours of playtime – and that daily.
What should change? There are no concrete changes yet. However, WoW developer Chimes has expressed his thoughts on the issue in the official WoW forum and shared his own experiences:
Yes, it’s no fun. I have done the event several dozen times a day on my characters over the past years and would probably do it again this year if I didn’t have so much real-life stuff to do.
Currently, if you want to maximize your chances of getting the mount, it’s in your best interest to do the event every day on as many characters as possible. While this is mathematically correct, it’s not a pleasant experience.
We hear your frustration, and the good news is that we are currently discussing this issue in the team and looking for possible solutions for holiday events in general. The bad news is that even if we implement changes, they will not arrive in time for this year’s “Love is in the Air” event.
It seems clear: developers want to find ways to mitigate mount frustration in the future. Possible solutions proposed by the community include:
- A generally higher drop rate of 3% or more.
- The mount as a purchasable reward for event tokens.
- A “Bad Luck Protection” that gradually increases the drop chance.
Which of these solutions will come – or whether it will ultimately be something entirely different – remains to be seen.
Not everyone is happy: However, there are negative voices in response to the announcement. Some players are already upset that they have farmed the mount for years and are worried that it will soon be practically “thrown out”. They feel robbed of their accomplishments – a devaluation of such a rare mount would occur.
Of course, this is not live yet, and it will likely not happen before the next major patch.
