Demons Hunters and Death Knights in World of Warcraft will soon have to return to the “Children’s Paradise”. Because they start their journey in WoW at level 8.
At BlizzCon, a lot of news about World of Warcraft was unveiled. With the upcoming expansion “Shadowlands”, things will change in Azeroth. The level cap will be reduced from 120 to 60, and the two hero classes of WoW will be worked on – in a strange way.
Update: Originally, we assumed that Death Knights and Demon Hunters would start at level 1. However, in the current Alpha of Shadowlands, they start at level 8. This may still change before release.
What exactly was said? During the “Deep Dive” panel on World of Warcraft, the developers went into more detail about the new leveling experience that is supposed to start with Shadowlands. Players will have an “introductory experience” from level 1-10 and can then quest between level 10 and 50 in expansions of their choice. For levels 50 to 60, the areas of Shadowlands will come into play. It was also mentioned that Death Knights and Demon Hunters will soon start at level 1 in their zones, which has now been changed to level 8.
Is it really that much more effort? Probably not. Blizzard is accelerating the leveling speed from level 1 to 50 by 60%-70%. It should be possible to level from level 10 to level 50 in a single expansion. This currently corresponds to the amount of experience points that Demon Hunters would need to gather in “Legion” without heirloom gear. For Death Knights, the end result might even be a bit faster.
Nevertheless, it will probably feel strange to start at level 8 as a “hero class”.
Why is Blizzard doing this? There has not yet been a precise explanation as to why Death Knights and Demon Hunters will have to start from the beginning.
One reason could be that the two classes are also to be integrated into the new leveling experience. So far, Death Knights and Demon Hunters have had most of their abilities available right from the start or after a short questline. Now it could be that abilities and talents – like all other classes – will be distributed over the first 50 levels.
What do you think about this change? Is it good and sensible for Demon Hunters to have a longer leveling experience? Or is it annoying and just disruptive?
