The times of Corruption in World of Warcraft will soon come to an end. The powerful effects will be disabled even before the release of the addon.
In World of Warcraft, everything is a bit crazier at the moment. Especially damage numbers are so insane that some players can deal one-hit kills in the arena. This is due to the powerful and devastating Corruption effects, which provide strong bonuses. But that will soon be a thing of the past, as the effects are set to be disabled before the release of the next expansion Shadowlands.
What was said? In an interview with PandaTV, the Game Director Ion Hazzikostas spoke about the future of Corruption in World of Warcraft. He said:
Here is a little sneak peek: Corruption will completely disappear with the Pre-Patch 9.0, right when the patch goes live. In terms of story, N’Zoth is dead, we have defeated the Old God, and his Corruption has been removed from Azeroth. (…)
We know that the game is currently quite broken, but part of why we think that’s okay is that it’s only for a short time. There’s no good way for us to handle someone going into new content with, say, 100% critical strike rating or something similar. Enjoy the crazy season, but after the squish, everything will be much more normal again. We will adjust everything so that people can still handle all the content they have been able to tackle so far. So if you were able to defeat N’Zoth with all your Corruption effects before Patch 9.0, you should still be able to do that with 9.0.
Corruption effects will therefore be completely disabled as soon as Patch 9.0 is released.
When will this happen? The pre-patch of an expansion usually comes 4-6 weeks before the actual release. Since Shadowlands is set to release “in Fall 2020”, which runs from September to December, it will likely be around mid to late November at the latest. As soon as there is a more exact date, you will, of course, find out on MeinMMO.
What will happen to Corruption? Corruption will simply be disabled – both its negative and positive effects. However, items may retain a note that they were once corrupted and possessed greater power.
Also, the items sold by MOTHER for targeted corruption of items will lose their usefulness. They will then become gray items that you can only sell to the vendor for a few gold coins.
What do you think? Would you have liked to keep Corruption while leveling in Shadowlands?
