Those who pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition of World of Warcraft might have had bad luck. Many requests were only canceled now.
A few months ago, Blizzard announced that there would be a very special Collector’s Edition (CE) for the 15th anniversary of World of Warcraft. This included mainly various goodies, such as the two controversial alabaster mounts, but also a fine statue of Ragnaros the Firelord.
For hardcore fans, it was quickly clear that they had to get their hands on this CE. So there were plenty of pre-orders on Amazon. But now many players are left empty-handed.
Amazon cancels numerous orders: Many players report that Amazon has now sent them an email and had to cancel the order. The email states:
Unfortunately, this item is not available in sufficient quantity due to the limitation. For this reason, we must unfortunately cancel the item from your order. Of course, you will not be charged for this. If a charge has already occurred, you will automatically receive a refund.
For most fans, this was of course a big disappointment, so there is now a lot of criticism in the official WoW forums.
Whose orders were canceled? It is currently completely unclear on what basis Amazon is canceling the orders. Some players fear that there may even be a kind of “lottery” and the available CE boxes are randomly distributed among all pre-orders. At least some WoW fans, who allegedly pre-ordered in the first minutes after the announcement, come to this conclusion. Whether that is true is not easy to verify.
Why Amazon is only starting the cancellations now is questionable. Apparently, the retailer did not know earlier how many copies of the CE they would be provided with.
Did Blizzard produce too few CEs? The criticism of Blizzard is that they simply produced too few CEs. The developer apparently misjudged the demand, which is why many fans now have to deal with a bitter disappointment. On the other hand, a Collector’s Edition has often been limited in many cases, which also adds to its value.
In any case, many WoW fans must have experienced disappointment today.
