The Mage Tower of World of Warcraft will be closed again. And this despite Blizzard claiming that the special challenges would remain permanent.
In World of Warcraft, there are numerous quests and challenges that take a lot of time. One of the most popular is the Mage Tower from Legion. Here, there are several different challenging fights for all classes. Success rewards these fights with special transmog.
The content was so popular that Blizzard brought it back with the Timewalking: Legion and later even activated it permanently due to high demand.
What will happen now? In the official WoW forum, Blizzard has now announced that the Mage Tower will soon be closed again. With the launch of the major Patch 10.0, the gates of the Mage Tower will close and the challenges will no longer be accessible.
Why is Blizzard doing this? According to Blizzard, they want to take time to “improve” the Mage Tower with a little extra work.
The reason for this is likely the new talent system, which only partially works with the Mage Tower. During the fights of the Mage Tower, Pact abilities were disabled because they would provide too great an advantage. However, with the pre-patch of the new expansion Dragonflight, it is now possible to obtain several of these Pact abilities through the talent system. This and other innovations are likely to mean that the challenges of the Mage Tower are no longer solvable as originally planned by Blizzard.
Should one hurry? That’s probably a clear case of “It depends.” Blizzard wants to revise this content and most likely adapt it to the new talent system. It’s quite possible that the difficulty of the Mage Tower might change a bit. Some fights could become more challenging, while others may become easier. If you’re unsure, you should put in the effort to complete the fights now before the opportunity disappears in a few days.
When will the Mage Tower return? That is still uncertain. Blizzard talks about “sometime after the launch of Dragonflight,” so likely not until December. As soon as there is a concrete date, we will of course report on it.
