In World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, farm bots are active to earn unfair gold. A player uses a clever trick to annoy them.
What kind of bots are these? Anyone playing WoW: Shadowlands might have come across characters that behave oddly. These could be bots that run through the areas using automated software to farm materials.
Players are more than annoyed by these bots. The community has come up with a solution to deal with the bots, arriving at a clever idea. They use an inconspicuous toy.
With Toybox in the fight against bots
This is how the trick works: On reddit, user thekingofbeans42 shows the special method with the toy. He writes that he placed a clickable toy at the farming spot of the botters and took out a group with it. As seen in the screenshot, he was successful. A group of Druids is in line in front of the toybox.
Why does this work? The bots might want to loot a mob that always reappears at that spot, or a flower, or ore. This is achieved by right-clicking at that exact location. If a toy that activates with a right-click is placed there, it disrupts the bot in its process, causing it to go temporarily haywire.
A player explains that the bots click to move. So if you place a clickable toy exactly in their path, they click on the toy instead of moving.
In this case, the reddit user placed the Never-ending Toy Chest there. The opener is then usually “rewarded” with grey or white items that are worthless.
How do players react? In the WoW subreddit, the toy trap is receiving a lot of positive feedback. The post has already received over 5,600 upvotes within a day. Almost 300 people commented on it. They write:
- “I tried this with the unstable portal emitter. It lasts only a few seconds but then pulls every bot into a different area.”
- “I would go one step further. Once they are all stuck and malfunctioning, I would report each one individually.”
- “I don’t care about gold or the economy. Still, it brings me joy to see that. I hate botters.”
