World of Warcraft Classic will not have German servers. Is that a deal-breaker for you? We want to find out.
For many fans of World of Warcraft Classic, this was a big shock. Blizzard announced details regarding the server structure in Europe, revealing a lot that players are not happy about. The biggest issue is probably that WoW Classic will not have servers divided by specific languages (with the exception of Russian servers).
In plain terms: There will be no German servers. Therefore, there will be many languages on the realms, with English, German, and French being mixed together.
There is resistance: The announcement caused a lot of criticism in the German and French forums. A loud part of the players believes that with this decision “Classic is dead for them”. It is just part of the classic gaming experience for those language groups that you predominantly meet people who speak the same language on the server. With “mixed” servers, this would not be the case.
Why are players insisting on German servers? For German-speaking players, speaking German on the realm is an essential part of World of Warcraft. It has been a great attraction and a significant part of the community on a server that everyone can communicate with each other.
Moreover, depending on the source, only 58 – 63 % of Germans report that they can speak and understand English well. Some long-time WoW fans might not have much fun on a predominantly English server.
Critics are just a small group: On the other hand, it should not be forgotten that German and French players have always received a “special treatment”. Players from other language countries have always had to make do with English servers that were predominantly English-speaking. Whether the German and French community is big and loud enough to persuade Blizzard to reconsider will surely become clear in the coming weeks.
