On Reddit, someone reports about an adventurous raid in WoW Classic with a Twitch streamer. He refused to interrupt the raid to accompany his wife and child to the emergency room.
What a situation! As the person reports in a post from August 9, 2023, a guy joined their raid group. He mentioned that he was streaming the raid on his channel, so she wanted to check it out.
However, on the Twitch streamer’s channel, the players were faced with a shocking scene.
Streamer sends wife to the hospital alone
What was going on with the Twitch streamer? His child was “screaming like crazy” in the background while his wife urged him to go to the hospital, Reddit user Round-Independent323 reports.
However, the Twitch streamer decided that the trip to the hospital could wait until after the raid: “I just got the best boots for my healing spec!”
In the end, he told his wife to go to the emergency room by herself, and he would come afterward once the raid was over. He did not offer her any help with preparations or leaving. The Twitch streamer only told his wife to let him know if it was something serious.
When the wife later sent a message that he should come to the hospital, he explained that she was just panicking until he ultimately decided to leave the raid and end the stream. Later, he reached out again to say that it was nothing.
Additionally, the poster linked the complete Twitch stream as well as relevant excerpts that the streamer had posted on YouTube – although he had cut out the child’s screams there. However, the recordings are no longer available. A glimpse can, however, be caught in a clip from Twitch streamer Asmongold, who reacted to the situation.
Asmongold, who is known for embodying the stereotype of an MMORPG nerd, explains: If he had done that with his former girlfriend, it probably wouldn’t have ended well for him.
“GDKPs bring a new level of degeneration”
How is this perceived? In the comments, Reddit users discuss the situation and how the streamer’s behavior relates to the game in general or GDKP raids in particular.
User u/AcceptableWedding650 explains: This kind of behavior is common in WoW Classic. The game attracts such people, and live streaming only highlights it. Other users agree: Such “horror stories” have always existed, but while one used to hear about them through hearsay, one can now experience them live.
User u/jblew42 believes that while the behavior is not directly attributable to GDKP, these raids bring “a new level of degeneration” from the player base.
Others feel that the streamer’s behavior has less to do with gaming and more with him as a person. They cannot understand how someone like that could even get married and have a child, and they advise the wife to rectify this supposed mistake with a divorce.
However, some advise against hasty judgments: Perhaps the wife is an overly concerned mother who would quickly panic. One can hardly judge such family situations from the outside when only seeing a small snippet.
For some Reddit users, the Twitch streamer’s behavior is a sign that the fun of gaming might have turned into an addiction. You can read from the colleagues at GameStar how a shared hobby can turn into a destructive addiction:
