WoW Classic connects the young and old. But behind many seniors, there can also be a true PvP nerd.
Most people probably associate gaming with the younger or adult generations. Only a few might think of retirees who still hammer away at the keyboard at the age of 70 or older. Who likes the idea of being boxed by a “grandpa” in the PvP battleground? However, that’s exactly the case in WoW Classic. A retiree has achieved rank 13 in PvP there – that must have taken a lot of time.
What happened? The Reddit user HeavyHammerVR shared a picture of his father. He is now a proud 73 years old and still a passionate gamer. His latest achievement demonstrates his dedication. In World of Warcraft Classic, he has just reached rank 13 in the PvP system.

After the original photo, he attached a small video showing the 73-year-old and his gaming setup at the start of a round in Alterac Valley:
Why is this so impressive? The grind in the PvP system of WoW Classic is quite tough and requires a lot of time and endurance. Although rank 13 is not the highest rank, very few players per server can hold this rank at the same time. Achieving such a high rank essentially requires daily playtime of many hours – anyone who only plays a little on weekends will certainly not be able to reach rank 13.
Is he continuing? According to the Reddit post, rank 13 is the end of the line for him. Instead, he wants to “start raiding again.” And who wouldn’t want this ambitious gentleman on their team? However, the grind for rank 14 is only for the truly insane.
How are others reacting? The “WoW retiree” is receiving a lot of support. Many players find it great when someone finds access to this hobby at an older age. Other seniors also commented in the post, stating that gaming is simply a much better hobby to stay mentally active.

I am 74 and have been playing WoW since Cataclysm. I have noticed that my cognitive abilities have sharpened since I started playing, especially when driving: reflexes and my perception of traffic situations. I also think that it is a hell of a lot more interesting than bingo and I get social interaction from it as well.
Many others would wish that older people would give gaming a real chance and not dismiss it immediately with “I’m too old for this.”
