The Twitch streamer Sodapoppin made fun of players who neglect their real life for WoW Classic. He completely forgot that he himself is such a player, as his chat reminds him. The reason for the extensive gaming: PvP.
This is what Sodapoppin says: In his stream on January 17, the Twitch Sodapoppin mocked players who skipped Christmas to play WoW Classic instead and grind for rank 14 in PvP. He says:
I mock a lot of players who skip Christmas and grind rank 14. I send them a piece of coal. Who the hell skips Christmas? At that point, I was really done.
That’s why he gets into trouble: While the Twitch streamer says this, his chat points out that he did the same thing. He also “canceled Christmas for WoW Classic.”
His only reaction is: ‘Me? I never … – oh.’ Then Sodapoppin laughs.
At the beginning of December 2019, Sodapoppin wrote on Twitter that he was postponing his Christmas stream because he was just too busy grinding rank 14 in WoW Classic.
It feels strange to fit in a stream now, since he is taking a break on Twitch to play WoW Classic extensively.
Sodapoppin himself quit the grind in WoW Classic at the beginning of January 2020 because it simply became too much for him.
PvP makes players greedy for more
What are players trying to achieve in Classic? This greed for the game, which Sodapoppin also mentions, comes from the new PvP system. This was introduced with Patch 1.13 on December 11 which first brought battlegrounds to WoW Classic.
Since then, players have been trying to farm honor. Their goal is PvP rank 14 (“Grand Marshal” for the Alliance or “High Warlord” for the Horde). With this, they can buy the best rewards available in PvP.
The grind takes a lot of time – days, for some even weeks. Many players use the “rush tactic,” which means finishing the battlegrounds as quickly as possible, which causes a lot of frustration in the community.
What’s the problem with that? As Sodapoppin has already mentioned, many players neglect their real life for the grind to rank 14.
This also includes the PvP crack Swifty, who seems to have a slight breakdown due to this in one of his streams:
Translation: I have passes to go to all the theme parks in Orlando. Universal Studios, Disney, Sea World, Busch Gardens. I have free tickets for all of them. I can go whenever I want. For free. What am I doing here? I’m grinding this rank 14. What am I doing?! This makes no sense!
On top of that, this grind apparently ruins the fun for other players, as they don’t just want to “rush” but want to play properly. Blizzard has even made changes to Alterac Valley regarding this – but the wrong ones.
What does the future of Classic look like?
What’s coming next: The players’ PvP addiction might soon be broken, as the new raid Blackwing Lair will be released on February 12 (Blackwing Lair) and finally bring more PvE.
In the corresponding phase, the Darkmoon Faire will also come, and there will be more content after that. See here what the phases of WoW Classic have to offer:
