Many players have been wondering for some time how WoW Classic will proceed once the content is “used up.” Because everything is supposed to remain as it was back then. Some fans now have ideas for the future – and even started a petition.
This is “Classic +”: In a petition on change.org, some fans of WoW Classic are currently demanding that Blizzard should develop a WoW Classic+. This means roughly that Classic should continue to evolve after the release of Naxxramas.
Instead of subsequently bringing The Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King as official legacy servers, the content of Classic should be expanded. This should avoid the problem that the community is further divided by additional servers of older expansions.
The proposed path is already being exemplified by another MMORPG. Runescape has also released an “OldSchool Runescape” version that has since received new content for fans of the old version. And Runescape still has thousands of players.
WoW Classic+ – This is what it could look like
What content could come? The Danish website ProgamerReview has compiled some ideas in an article about “Classic+”. Following the already announced phases of WoW Classic, five more could come:
- The Caverns of Time
- Countries of Conflict: Azshara
- The Dark Tower: Karazhan and Dalaran
- The Scarlet Onslaught: Lordaeron
- The Emerald Dream
In the phases, new dungeons and even new raids like “The Heart of the Dream” or “Caverns of Time: The Skull of Gul’dan” would be included. It is also possible to utilize existing content from other expansions, such as the Tower of Karazhan.
Additionally, with each phase, more classes would receive quests, adding more depth to them. The world itself would also be expanded with either revamped or new areas.
This is the problem with it: Although the idea would likely please many players, others see difficulties in it as well. It is simply easier for the developers to implement something like The Burning Crusade than to create new content.
They also criticize that “Classic +” would appeal to no one except players who already play Classic. Whether this is true remains to be seen, as even Classic was said to be something only veterans would want to play. Now it has also excited new and retail players:
