A new patch for World of Warcraft Classic has been found. This could indicate that Classic players can soon experience new content.
Wrath of the Lich King Classic is slowly coming to an end with the fall of the Lich King, even though there is still a small raid ahead. But then it will be over, and the Classic community has to hope that Blizzard presents something new. A new season, a new addon, or servers with a fresh start.
But now a patch has been found that is being prepared in the background. And this could mean new content.
What has been found? A new WoW version with the patch number “1.15” was found in the background of Battle.net – suggesting that it is an update for WoW Classic. The version is not accessible to regular players, but probably only for a few selected testers – presumably only the developers themselves.
In fact, this internal WoW version has existed since April 2023. Since then, it has been updated weekly. Whatever the WoW team is preparing there seems to be something bigger for Classic – or something that simply requires a lot of work.
What could this patch be? The theories vary significantly. Some speculate that patch “1.15” could be a new season. So similar to the championship season or the “hardcore” mode, it could be a new season directing focus on different game content.
Another theory, however, is that this could be a “WoW Classic+” that fans have been asking for a long time. The hope is that there will be entirely new content, but developed in the style of “Vanilla”.
Lastly, it could also be possible that this patch refers to the “next expansion” of WoW Classic – that would be Cataclysm. However, this seems rather unlikely, as the patch number would probably be more like 4.X or something comparable.
When will we learn more? Even though the patch is already found in the background of Battle.net, we will probably find out what patch 1.15 is all about first at BlizzCon on November 3, 2023. Because then Blizzard will reveal how things will proceed with World of Warcraft – and this applies to both Classic and WoW: Dragonflight.
