The Paladin Rextroy strikes again – this time in WoW Classic. Naked and seemingly afk, he lurks for his enemies, who meet a swift end.
In World of Warcraft Classic, the rules of the game world are a bit different. There aren’t as many opportunities to execute “one-hit combos” – but a few combinations do exist. The infamous Paladin Rextroy has made it his mission to find and exploit these mechanics to surprise a few unsuspecting players – and he can even do this as a virtually naked Paladin, equipped only with a weapon, helmet, and trinkets. And plenty of explosive toys.
What does Rextroy do? What he does best: Amusingly terrorizing other players. He seemingly sits afk and almost naked on some frequently visited road in the game world. On a PvP realm, a naked player from the opposing faction who is also afk is an easy target. It’s like a little “honor snack” just waiting to be quickly picked up.
However, Rextroy is not actually afk and is just waiting for this moment. As soon as he is attacked, he launches a combo that can knock many players completely off their feet. He can deal nearly 3,000 to 4,000 damage in a fraction of a second.
What effects are used? Rextroy combines, as usual, a whole range of effects and explosive items that engineers or other professions can create:
- Fire Helmet – A leatherworking helmet that has a “Use” effect and hurls a small fireball at the target.
- Goblin Bomb Dispenser – A trinket that summons a small bomb that explodes on the next enemy.
- Goblin Pioneer Charge – A consumable item that deals high damage.
Additionally, there’s a talent that Rextroy exploits for maximum efficiency:
- Reckoning: After the Paladin has been critically hit, his next automatic attack hits multiple times. This buff can stack up to 5 times, allowing a single hit to strike 6 times.
Combined with “Seal of Command”, this results in so much damage that cloth wearers can almost be taken out by it alone.
What’s so nasty about it? Especially the spontaneous invisibility from the “Gnomish Cloaking Device” is nasty. Because it makes it look like Rextroy simply “phased out” to enter a battleground. So players would likely be surprised when Rextroy then pops out of invisibility seconds later and blasts the attacker away in a fireworks display of effects.
However: This is not a permanent, efficient farming method. The main reason is that invisibility alone has a one-hour cooldown. So the fun can only be executed once per hour and requires quite a bit of preparation and luck, as certain effects can be resisted.
So if you are out in Classic and see a seemingly defenseless, naked afk Paladin sitting on the road… it’s better to take a wide detour.
