WoW Classic aims to thrill fans of “Wrath of the Lich King” with “Fresh Start” realms. MeinMMO reveals what this means.
The next expansion for the retail version of World of Warcraft, Dragonflight, will likely not be released this year. However, this is not the case for fans of “WoW Classic”. They will enjoy “Wrath of the Lich King Classic” in 2022. Now Blizzard has promised that a special request from the Classic community will also be fulfilled:
With the launch of Wrath of the Lich King, there will be new, fresh realms that start completely from “zero”.
When will the “Fresh Start” realms be released? Together with the start of the pre-patch for Wrath of the Lich King Classic. A specific date is not yet available, only the year 2022 is confirmed.
What exactly are “fresh” realms? Simply put: Realms that start completely anew and are not influenced by already existing players. Everyone starts together at level 1 and no one can access the gold wealth of already existing characters. So a completely new, fresh community will form on these realms that wants to embark on the adventure of Wrath of the Lich King together.
What rules apply on the realms? Unlike the other realms, which seamlessly transition from Burning Crusade Classic to Wrath of the Lich King Classic, some restrictions and peculiarities apply on the “Fresh” realms. These are:
- For at least 90 days, it will not be possible to boost a character on this realm.
- For at least 90 days, it will not be possible to transfer a character to this realm.
- Death Knights can only be created on these realms if at least one character is level 55 on the same realm.
Aside from that, all dungeons from Classic and Burning Crusade are immediately available on the “Fresh Start” realms.
What is the purpose of this? The intention behind these “Fresh Start” realms is relatively clear. Blizzard wants to make WotLK Classic attractive for newcomers as well. After all, it is a greater hurdle to get into an MMORPG where a large part of the players have already collected resources and gold for many years. Catching up is nearly impossible.
At the same time, there is also a continuous desire within the existing Classic community to be able to start completely “fresh”. With fresh realms for WotLK, this will be possible.
