After more than a year, we once again take a look back at WoW Classic. Did the game meet expectations and revive nostalgia?
It’s been just over a year since World of Warcraft Classic launched and fulfilled the dreams of many players. Not only veterans got to experience the magic of the original WoW version once again. Players who never had the chance to play WoW in its vanilla version also enjoyed it.
Now, WoW Classic is complete, the final patch has been released. The last raid Naxxramas is open and was cleared within the first 90 minutes.
WoW Classic: A beautiful journey or the end of nostalgia?
This slowly raises the question: Was WoW Classic actually a good idea? Did the game meet the expectations of long-time fans? Could WoW Classic reignite the nostalgia of the past and bring back the beautiful hours from over a decade ago? After all, WoW Classic attracted enormous attention and was more popular on the streaming site Twitch at launch than Shadowlands.
Or did WoW Classic tarnish and ruin those memories? After all, there were many things in WoW Classic that played out very differently than in Vanilla times. World buffs are painstakingly stacked, bosses are defeated with mathematical certainty, and everyone knows their “Best in Slot” items by heart. The optimization craze was clearly greater than it was back in Vanilla times, and only a few realms could maintain a feeling like it was back then for the long term.
