Alterac Valley in WoW Classic was once a place that invited dreams. But today, the area is quite peculiar – a short video shows the transformation.
Alterac Valley is a rather strange place in World of Warcraft. On one hand, it is a battleground that players associate with many nostalgic memories, and over the years it has become “the great PvP experience” – at least in the stories of many Vanilla fans. On the other hand, Alterac Valley in WoW Classic is a place of peak performance and a source of frustration when the match doesn’t go as ambitious players wish.

What to see: The short video “Alterac Valley – Then vs Now” shows exactly this different perception of Alterac Valley. “Back then” during the time of Vanilla, Alterac Valley was a tug-of-war for many players, a constant battle. Sometimes the Horde could gain a few meters, then the Alliance would follow. The battles dragged on for many hours, often even several days. Creatures like Lokholar the Ice Lord were summoned, and many players even had their own personal “archenemy” in the battleground, while occasionally some players simply fished.
In the current version of Alterac Valley, players just ride past each other to quickly reach the end boss and finish the battleground as fast as possible. In doing so, they always aim to farm honor with maximum efficiency to have any chance of achieving the legendary Rank 14. If the battleground takes even a few moments longer, the first players get annoyed.
How much truth is there? Even though the video is meant to be satire, there is a grain of truth in it. The awareness of players for the most effective playstyle today is greater than it was 15 years ago. In the past, many players just did PvP for fun. Although there were ambitious players back then who played with maximum efficiency, it seems that the number of these players – compared to back then – has increased.
Due to the changed gameplay, Blizzard has also had to make several adjustments.
