World of Warcraft Shadowlands is just around the corner, and some Classic guild leaders are starting to sweat with fear. After all, there is a risk that the latest WoW expansion will drive some players back to “Retail”. Therefore, some guild leaders resort to drastic measures to keep their players long-term – they are simply threatened.
What happened? In the World of Warcraft Subreddit, a screenshot of a Discord chat allegedly from a Classic guild leader was published. In this announcement to all guild members, it is warned not to play Shadowlands, or else one will be kicked out of the guild.

This is a reminder to all our raid members, read this carefully. If we see someone playing Shadowlands, we consider that your resignation from the guild and you will be removed from Discord and the guild.
You are here to raid and play Classic, we will not tolerate our raiders playing other MMOs. If your presence declines during the first months after the Shadowlands release, we will assume you are playing it behind our backs and you will also be quickly removed.

Is this a fake? Whether the image is completely truthful is not so easy to determine. However, several players express in the comments of the related Reddit post that they have experienced similar behavior from their guild leaders. However, they are “smart” enough not to post it on Discord, but to address it only in voice chat. It seems there are a lot of guild leaders who are concerned about the future of their guild. After all, Shadowlands is the first expansion since the release of Classic and thus a real threat that players may migrate away.
