WoW Classic also gets a group finder – namely through player addons. But should that be allowed?
Between the current World of Warcraft and WoW Classic lie nearly 15 years. Many things that seem commonplace today did not exist back then. Especially tools like the group finder are now standard in all major MMORPGs. So it is little surprising that many players in WoW Classic do not want to do without it.
That is why addons are being programmed, such as ClassicLFG, which simulate these features.
But should this even be possible?
This is ClassicLFG: Essentially, the interface addon ClassicLFG aims to recreate the group search from the current WoW. You can therefore enter your own group into a list, give the group a description, or apply to join other groups. It is also possible, as in the current WoW, to sort by dungeons, quests, and other criteria.
Like all interface addons, ClassicLFG (and similar tools) is optional. No one has to use it, and only those who install it can utilize its functions.
What are the pros and cons? Such addons have been hotly debated in the community for months, but with the impending launch of WoW Classic, the topic has reignited. Both sides have a clear stance, resulting in two main camps.
This is what the proponents say: The group search was annoying even back then in WoW, and hardly anyone enjoys spamming the trade channel in Ironforge for hours. Such addons simply ensure that players can find each other faster and can play more content without wasting time waiting annoyingly.
There are certainly enough players for groups – the servers are super full!
This is what the opponents say: WoW Classic got along without such addons, and the group search is a core part of social interaction and what makes Classic what it is. Only through such challenges have long-lasting friendships formed and players have found teammates with whom they have always embarked on adventures.
It is not actually “completely indifferent” whether the addons are allowed or not, opponents argue. The more people use such addons, the fewer players one finds through traditional means, which would ruin an important aspect of Classic.
