The probably best WoW-addon of all time is coming back – if some fans have their say. “Wrath of the Lich King Class” has surfaced first hints.
World of Warcraft being launched again as a “Classic” variant was the big dream of many players, and Blizzard has fulfilled numerous wishes with it. Shortly after, when “Burning Crusade Classic” was also launched, even more fans were happy. The next step on this path seems to be obvious: the expansion Wrath of the Lich King.
First hints in the game data now make it clear: The expansion is probably coming.
What was discovered? In the latest PTR for “Burning Crusade Classic,” some game data was mined by data miners at wowhead . This data has a suspicious name, as each has the addition “Wrath” – the common abbreviation for the expansion “Wrath of the Lich King.” At wowhead, it is assumed that these are merely the data for the menu buttons that were displayed in blue in WotLK.
How likely is that? Very. Many players consider Wrath of the Lich King to be the best of the “old” expansions. This is not only due to the solid class design but also to the great story, the new class “Death Knight,” and a reunion with the archvillain Arthas. When Wrath of the Lich King was released, World of Warcraft was at the peak of its success – at least in terms of player numbers. A staggering 12 million players were gaming World of Warcraft back then.
However, with WotLK also began many things that were later viewed negatively by the community. For example, the Group Finder was introduced, which heralded the “social demise” for many players and gradually made guild structures less important.
How many expansions WoW will still bring as a “Classic” variant remains to be seen. At least the Lich King fans are likely to be pleased – even if many did not enjoy that with the new cinematic in Retail, as Arthas meets his end once again:
