The team from WoW Classic has surprisingly released an XP buff for the Season of Discovery, promising double experience until level 39. This relief is being hotly debated in the forums. Not all players are thrilled.
What kind of buff is this? The effect Joy of Discovery is now available on the seasonal servers of WoW Classic and grants all characters up to level 39 a whopping 100 percent more experience points from all sources.
A comparable relief was already available last month, specifically since the launch of the second content phase on February 8, 2024. The goal of the original XP buff: to bring latecomers and side characters swiftly into the current level range of levels 25 to 40.
The extended version of Joy of Discovery now allows you to quickly advance almost to the current maximum level of 40. The developers do not mention a time limit for the effect. However, those who wish can deactivate (or reactivate) the buff at any innkeeper.
Some players think the buff comes too early
How is the community reacting? After Blizzard’s announcement, more than 90 comments quickly piled up in the official WoW forum. Some players are happy that they can now reach their goals more quickly with their side characters.
Other players are surprised by the early timing. Phase 2 has been out for barely a month, they say. The first phase lasted almost ten weeks. Why devalue the leveling phase that has always played a comparatively essential role in WoW Classic so soon?
Other WoW fans argue that in practice, many players spend most of their time grinding dungeons to collect experience efficiently. Additionally, the phase from 25 to 40 can feel particularly sluggish, especially because travel times increase but players do not yet have a mount (which only comes at level 40).
