World of Warcraft Classic has not been able to keep many players beyond the first year. Over 40% of you have already stopped playing.
World of Warcraft Classic has been running for over a year now. Not all classic content has been released yet, as the necropolis Naxxramas and thus the Scourge attacks are still pending. Nevertheless, the initial influx of players has long since subsided, and many have turned away from the long-awaited MMO classic.
A few days ago, we wanted to ask you in a survey how interest in WoW Classic is doing. At least for the readers of MeinMMO, it can be stated: Almost every second of you has now turned your back on WoW Classic. Here are the results of the survey:
- 28 % still play very regularly, almost every day.
- 9 % play occasionally, but not as often anymore.
- 9 % log in only very rarely.
- 40 % do not play at all anymore.
- 14 % have never started playing WoW Classic.
If we exclude the 14% from the survey who stated that they have never played World of Warcraft Classic, the result is even stronger. Because roughly speaking, it can be said that every second one of our readers who started with World of Warcraft Classic is no longer logging in.
This is what you say about WoW Classic after one year
Many of those interested have apparently been disappointed by Classic as well. The game itself may be the reason, as it seems to be the case with mordran. He wrote:
For me, Classic was a disappointment. It was actually the most boring gaming experience I have had so far. What I at least positively noticed on the RP realms was the community.
Others, like Scaver, are rather disappointed by the community and the self-imposed pressure and have fled from it again.
(…) The performance pressure in Classic is at least 10x higher than in Retail, also because the “new content” is unlocked at much shorter intervals and everyone wants to be involved from day 1. If you are not one of those, you have hardly any chance of making connections – that’s my experience.
Therefore, I remain alone with Retail and Classic has long since been uninstalled.
Many are now looking at it more casually, like our reader elysium. He wrote:
[Classic] is still the best game for me. I played for a long time on private servers and have to honestly say that I felt more comfortable there than on the official servers now. Classic is and will definitely remain my main game and hopefully soon BC.
However, I now look at it very casually, sometimes 2 weeks offline, then level a bit and then offline again for a while.
However, there are also some players who are surprised by the large number of dropouts. Sordnax finds it incomprehensible that many have already stopped playing, even though the final contents are still pending. He writes:
Wow, I’m surprised that the survey so far shows that most are not playing anymore.
I mean – sure, everything is in a way “Easy Mode”.
But doesn’t it count that you have grown together as a guild and that it still makes fun to take on AQ40 and to prepare and look forward to the “final Classic content” Naxxramas? Or will a large part of the players come back for the Naxx patch? What’s going on?
Is Classic “dead”? No, far from it. The realms of WoW Classic are still filled to the brim and – with a few exceptions – you can quickly find a group and playmates for joint activities everywhere. This player decline during the first year was apparently planned by Blizzard. On most realms, the population is still high. When you consider that the current realms host four to five times the number of players compared to Vanilla times, that’s still a pretty strong utilization.
So WoW Classic will probably not disappear anytime soon – even if many players have already left after the first year. At least, the announcement of Phase 6 should be coming soon…
