The latest cinematic from World of Warcraft shows once again: We need a series. Because Blizzard knows how to tell emotional and dark stories.
In about a week, the new expansion of World of Warcraft will begin. To gather all players, Blizzard is releasing a series of cinematics to introduce the story and explain who the main characters are. Last week we had Xal’atath, this week Alonsus Faol and Lady Liadrin – but in a different style. The video is created in a cartoon look. But take a look for yourself:
What is the cinematic about? In the video “Everything that is holy”, we see Lady Liadrin. In her childhood, her adoptive father shows her the Sunwell in Quel’thalas. He explains to her what the Light is and how it sustained the race of High Elves for millennia – something that leads Liadrin to follow in her father’s footsteps and train as a priest.
At the same time, we see Liadrin in the present time, as she meets the undead Alonsus Faol in Tirisfal to discuss the impending war against the Void.
Throughout, we see brief flashbacks from Liadrin’s past: The Scourge’s attack on Quel’thalas (Warcraft III) and how her father was killed by the undead and later unleashed as a zombie against his own daughter.
At the same time, we see the powers of Liadrin and Alonsus Faol being attacked by Scarlet Crusaders, who want to (permanently) kill Faol. Despite big words, the leader of the Scarlet Crusaders has little to counter the powers of the two – but they also serve as a reminder of how a fanatical belief in the Light can lead one down the wrong path.
The video is quite emotional and shows in a few minutes how Liadrin has become the person she is today.
Where is the Warcraft series, Blizzard?
Fans want a whole series: Every time Blizzard releases such a cinematic, the same voices are raised again: The desire for a whole series in the Warcraft cosmos, whether in a cartoon/anime style or in the style of Arcane. This can especially be noted in the comments on YouTube, where the video is received extremely well:

Cortyn says: The video once again impressively shows how well Blizzard can create cinematics – whether it’s the big CGI videos or these short films before the release of a new expansion. In my opinion, it is among the best videos they have released so far, but I also have a fondness for blood elves and their stories.
But I agree that Warcraft deserves to finally have its own series to view the most exciting moments of the lore on TV. The material is virtually endless and there are great stories in the Warcraft universe around every corner. But maybe we will see exactly that soon, as one of the heads behind WoW thinks that “Warcraft has been used far too little so far” – which could hint at a series.
