The transmog rules in World of Warcraft are being relaxed. Soon you will be able to look unassuming, as hundreds of simple outfits are coming – and fans are cheering.
Transmog is one of the most time-consuming and enjoyable endgame features for many WoW players. Creating new outfits and collecting more transmog items in the wardrobe is a long-term goal, especially for “completionists.” Until now, there have been some hurdles and missing items – but these will soon be accessible.
What has been the problem so far? Although the transmog system in World of Warcraft has been expanded over the years and has allowed for more options, there are still some limitations. One of the most annoying restrictions for many players is the fact that World of Warcraft only saves the template of items in the collection that are at least of rare (green) quality. This means that numerous gray and white items, such as those from the first quest rewards or clothing that can be purchased from vendors, are not available for transmogification.
This is particularly frustrating for anyone who would prefer a less heroic look for their character and wants to dress more like an ordinary inhabitant of Azeroth.
What will be changed? In a group interview with Game Director Ion Hazzikostas, he discussed changes to the transmog system.
The ongoing expansion and adjustments are something we definitely want to do in Dragonflight. Maybe even sooner, we will integrate many of the items of white and gray quality into the transmog system, so that you can choose from many simpler, more subdued outfits in the style of civilians. We also want to continue to bring more options for customization and self-expression.
Thus, it is clear: Most white and gray items are likely to be found soon in the transmog collection, possibly already with the upcoming patch 9.2.5 – otherwise probably only with 10.0, the pre-patch for Dragonflight.
Community is excited: Although the change is relatively small, there are many players who are happy about it. Just in the comments on wowhead, there are numerous transmog fans expressing positive thoughts:
- ‘Holy F***. Finally, this is the best change ever for me!’
- ‘Finally! I have tons of white items in my characters’ banks, just for this moment.’
- ‘I’m so glad I collected all the old starter gear before it was removed – there are some nice outfits in there.’
Anyone who wants to embody a slightly ‘simpler’ hero roaming the vastness of Azeroth in rather ordinary clothing will soon be able to do so – without having to carry these items in their inventory permanently.
