In the new Patch 9.2 for WoW (World of Warcraft), new class-specific tier sets are making a return after a long time. However, the appearance of the Warlock set reminds players of the “Ku-Klux-Klan” robes with its hood. The community brought this to Blizzard’s attention, and they said: We overlooked this, we will change it.
What does Blizzard say? On Twitter, Blizzard’s developers write that they agree with the community. From certain angles, the new Warlock set looks like something other than a WoW set. Therefore, they want to redesign the set before the release of Patch 9.2 and showcase the new version on the test servers.
In the community, the set’s appearance sparked heated discussions.
Community: From behind, it looks like it’s from the “Ku-Klux-Klan”
This is what the players say: Dataminers have already previewed the appearance of the new WoW sets from Patch 9.2. On reddit, players are commenting on these PTR screenshots, saying that the appearance is not well-chosen. User GlitchAesthetic shares images of the set and writes, “From behind, it looks more like a Grand Wizard.” The Grand Wizard is the highest position in the hierarchy of the “Ku-Klux-Klan”.
Lexstrasza writes on Twitter: “No chance that players won’t exploit this. I hope they work on it again and change the shape or the color. Just something!”
In response, justaharbourkid commented on Twitter: “I was already very unhappy with the tier set for Warlocks (just like that of the Demon Hunters), but now that I’ve noticed this, I definitely won’t use it!”
However, the Warcraft developers’ account also responded with a tweet, stating that they will change the set. It reads: “We hear you and agree. We overlooked this because we did not examine the set from all angles before including it in the first test build. We have already begun to adjust the set, and you will see changes in one of the next builds of the Eternity’s End PTR.”
The reactions to the tweet are mostly positive. Players thank Blizzard for quickly addressing the problem and implementing changes. However, some also question how such a mistake could happen and whether Blizzard had not reviewed the set beforehand.
Player gr33nzo commented under the tweet: “Thank you for the quick response and for agreeing! This is what players love to see. Oversights happen, what matters is how you fix them. Thank you!”
However, the new patch has much more in store than just a few sets. As the final update for Shadowlands, you can expect a new area and, of course, a raid.
Especially in light of Blizzard’s recent actions, where they removed in-game content that could potentially be problematic, it is probably better to quickly resolve issues like the appearance of the set.
The developers are currently very keen on removing content with suggestive jokes or graphics, as well as dialogues.
See here, which jokes and pickup lines used to be part of WoW, but have now been removed.
