Boosters now have a harder time promoting their services in World of Warcraft. A small rule complicates the promotion of sell runs.
Those who enjoy visiting “Mythic+” dungeons in World of Warcraft and cannot rely on a full group have to go random. However, finding a promising group can be quite difficult, as there is a lot of advertising in the group finder. This is prohibited, but still appears – but now Blizzard is putting a stop to it.
What is the problem? Those looking for companions for a raid or a “Mythic+” group must wade through dozens of group offers depending on the time of day. Particularly annoying: A large portion of these groups has additions like “WTS”, “FAST LOOT” or “EASY BOOSTING” in the description. These are not really groups that want to tackle a dungeon together but sales offers, where a corresponding player is pulled through these contents for gold – or even real money.
Those looking for regular groups must first sift through “false” groups for several minutes or automatically tidy up using various addons.
What has changed? A small but crucial detail. In the future, it will no longer be possible to create groups for “Mythic+” and Shadowlands raids as long as the character is not level 60. Only those who have reached the maximum level in World of Warcraft will be able to create groups in these categories.
Why is this important? Often, advertising for corresponding offers like “Sell Runs” or “Boosting services” is done through low-level characters that cannot even visit these contents yet. Then, this “throwaway character” is used to connect buyers and sellers. Reporting these characters made little sense so far since players simply create new characters. Now, this is no longer so easy, as the new advertising character must reach level 60 first.
Is boosting prohibited? No, fundamentally, it is absolutely fine to offer to pull other players through dungeons or raids for in-game gold. However, promoting such groups in the group search is prohibited, as it has led to players having a hard time finding the “right” groups. Promoting a boost in the trade channel is still allowed and not sanctioned.
Whether this change fulfills a significant purpose will become clear in the next few days. But it is at least a step in the right direction to keep the group finder clean and useful.
