Shortly before the release of Patch 9.0.5, World of Warcraft changes a small but important detail. A annoying restriction of the new currency simply disappears.
Actually, Patch 9.0.5 has been in the PTR for a long time as a ‘release candidate’, but at the last minute Blizzard made an important change. A strong limitation of the new Valor points has been removed, making the resource easier to collect.
What has changed? With the latest update of Patch 9.0.5, Blizzard has changed a small addition in the description of the Valor points. While it previously stated that a character can only hold 1,500 Valor points at once, this addition has now disappeared.
After the players puzzled for a few hours whether this was a bug, Blizzard explained in the official forum: No, this is intended. The maximum amount of Valor points that a character can hold has been removed.
Why was this changed? Blizzard did not mention a specific reason, but the strong feedback is likely to be a decisive factor. Many players complained that the cap of 1,500 Valor points in the inventory was a hindrance. Especially since only comparatively few items drop in “Mythic+” dungeons, there is a risk that players reach the 1,500 cap without having a single item they want to upgrade.
To avoid such a situation, many players wanted the cap to be removed – very similar to how it is already the case with Conquest points in PvP.
What caps still exist? However, there is still an upper limit for Valor points. However, this no longer limits how many your character can hold at once, but only represents the absolute cap of what you can earn at all. This cap starts at 5,000 points and is then increased by 750 additional points each week. Those who start later can catch up with other players by simply investing a bit more time in dungeons.
When is Patch 9.0.5 being released? Already tomorrow. In Europe, the patch goes live with maintenance on 10.03.2021. Americans can already play the patch today, as they have a slight advantage due to the time difference and a different schedule for the maintenance here.
