A change in Patch 9.1 could make “Mythic+” really annoying in World of Warcraft. Most players already hate it.
Patch 9.1 Chains of Domination has been on the PTR for quite some time. However, the next update for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is facing ongoing criticism. Now a change to “Mythic+” and the related achievements has been discovered in the latest version of the PTR, causing quite a bit of negativity.
What is being changed? With Patch 9.1, you will no longer earn the achievement “Keystone Master” by completing all current dungeons once at level 15. Instead, you will need to achieve a certain “Dungeon Rating” – a new score, similar to the famous Raider.io. The value required for the achievement is set at 2,000.
The catch: To reach the rating of 2,000, you must complete all dungeons on M+15 twice each time. Once during a “Tyrannical” week and once during a “Fortified” week. Only then will you earn enough rating.
What’s so bad about the change? The two affixes “Tyrannical” and “Fortified” alternate every week. The first affix gives bosses significantly more health and damage, while the second has a similar effect on all non-bosses (trash mobs).
The problem, however, is that the affixes are seen as too strong in some cases. For instance, the second boss in the Theater of Pain during “Tyrannical” weeks is extremely powerful, just like Hakkar on the other side. Tyrannical alone makes the keystone for these bosses feel significantly more difficult than the rest of the dungeon. In other words: The balance of the affixes is not optimal.
This has led to some dungeons simply being avoided during Tyrannical weeks.
With the upcoming system, this will no longer be possible. Anyone wanting to earn “Keystone Master” will have to endure dungeons that they usually avoid due to hated affixes.
However, keep in mind that this information is still based on PTR data. It is quite possible that Blizzard will revert this change before the release of Patch 9.1.
This is how players are reacting: The initial reactions to the changes from the PTR are extremely negative. For example, in the comments on wowhead, there are statements like these:
- “Maybe you should first design Tyrannical so that it’s less awful.”
- “Their solution to the problem that everyone hates Tyrannical and therefore avoids it is to force them to complete Tyrannical keystones. Epic.”
- “And once again, Blizzard shoots itself in the foot.”
- “Dear Ion Hazzikostas, this is really a great change and the positive transformation the community wanted. If anyone knows what Blizzard players want, it’s the developers (Yes, we have phones). Anyway, I think this is still not enough. I suggest that for the achievement, all dungeons should be completed with all affixes.”
What do you think of this adjustment? A good change to encourage people to step out of their comfort zones and face terrible “Tyrannical” keys? Or a huge misstep that Blizzard should fix right away?
