A small change on the website of World of Warcraft has intrigued story fans. Did Blizzard tease the new expansion?
Some adjustments have been made on the official World of Warcraft website that many fans have noticed. The preview pages for most races have been updated, information has been summarized, and some new details have been added.
What has changed? The websites of most standard races have been updated and are now significantly more compact. This includes all races except for the allied races that need to be unlocked first. The lengthy history of the old websites has been condensed into a few sentences and updated, providing a brief explanation of what each race represents and the challenges it faces.
What stands out? What stands out here is especially the change on the Draenei website, which puts the prophet Velen a bit more in focus. There is now a small description that states:
The immortal prophet Velen believes that a great war between light and darkness is approaching, with Azeroth being its greatest battlefield. Alongside his allies, he is committed to ensuring that Azeroth is ready when the time comes.
This focus on the impending war between light and darkness is seen by some as the first teaser for the next expansion, which could revolve around this theme. After all, the brewing conflict has been simmering for many years, and more and more hints suggest that the (at least temporarily) final battle is slowly approaching.
The war between light and void is the central cosmic conflict that World of Warcraft has been heading towards for several expansions, with small hints being dropped repeatedly.
This is how the community reacts: The community reacts with mixed feelings. Part of the player base is excited that more hints suggest this big conflict is finally imminent.
Others are fed up with conflicts that span the entire universe and would prefer an expansion that is much more down-to-earth and deals with Azeroth and small, local problems again. They do not want another great cosmic power threatening all existence and would rather return to smaller stories.
However, some players also point out that Velen has been making small comments regarding the conflict between light and shadow for many expansions. The fact that this is now brought into focus on the official WoW page for the Draenei is at least another indication of the next – or even the one after – expansion.
What do you think? Would you like an expansion that focuses on the cosmic conflict between light and void and is set in Azeroth? Or would you prefer a “calm” expansion that deals with smaller issues once again?
