Cataclysm as the next step for World of Warcraft Classic? We wanted your opinion – and you were quite loud.
In World of Warcraft Classic, the release of WotLK Classic is imminent, but the developers at Blizzard are already looking to the future. A few days ago, it was revealed that some players received surveys that cautiously explored interest in a “Cataclysm Classic”.
We wanted to know from you, the readers of MeinMMO, what you think about Cataclysm Classic.
Your answer was quite clear – you really don’t want it.
Nearly two-thirds do not want Cataclysm – no matter how
The largest group among our readers is not interested in Cataclysm Classic – no matter how it would look. A whopping 62% (2,462 votes) stated clearly that they do not want to see Cataclysm in any form. For most of them, the great decline of World of Warcraft began with Cataclysm, which is also somewhat undeniable. WoW never had more players than during the time of Wrath of the Lich King.
Gondric writes in the comments on MeinMMO:
Cata was the expansion that ended WoW for me. And I had to wait until Classic before I could play it again, even though it was my favorite game. No, thanks.
A quarter would play Cataclysm – with changes
However, there is also nearly a quarter of you (24%, 952 votes) who could warm up to Cataclysm if Blizzard made minor and major changes to the game.
Andevar comments on this:
Under certain circumstances, I would actually find additional expansions as classic variants interesting.
But it would have to be fundamentally different.
For example, the talent trees and skills should not be so severely reduced and the classes should really remain distinctly different from each other. I could also gladly do without the destruction of the zones (story-wise difficult, yes …).
I wouldn’t really be interested in a 1:1 implementation, because in my opinion, the decline actually began with Cata.
Every seventh wants Cataclysm as it was
The clearly smallest group, at 14% with 552 votes, are clear supporters of Cataclysm Classic. They would look forward to the expansion and would hardly need any changes to it. This group appreciated the changes to the game world, the new areas, and also the adjustments to the talents. Especially the dungeons from Cataclysm are still often popular today.
For example, Bullet86 writes:
I would celebrate a Cata Classic.
As a Disci-Priest, the mechanic of healing through damage that was introduced back then was simply awesome. I miss that a bit now that I’ve just returned before WotLK.
I still have good memories of the raids, like defeating Deathwing.
It really only went downhill for me with Mists of Pandaria. The Asian-inspired setting just didn’t appeal to me at all back then.
If no Cataclysm – then what? “Cataclysm Classic” seems to generally face significant rejection. However, this raises the question of what will happen to World of Warcraft Classic when Wrath of the Lich King Classic reaches its final patch. Should the developers simply leave the game at this patch level forever?
Would you like to see a “WotLK Season of Mastery” as there was already in Classic, with tougher bosses and more difficult battles? Or should the developers take a completely different path and develop new content for WotLK Classic – such as dungeons or raids? We would love to hear your opinion in the comments.
